I skated Onion River Road trail - soggy and slow after the snowfalls of last night and the day before - while my friend did classic on no wax skis and was very happy with the skied in track. Not groomed since those two snowfalls and there's a lot of snow on the trail that should provide good skiing for awhile. Without grooming, classic is the way to go.

Classic skied Homestead and Hogback loops. The tracks were icy and worn but manageable with fish scale skis. Very few bare spots. The skate deck was firm, coverage excellent and recently groomed.

Skied from Oberg around Picnic, Hogback and Homestead loops. Fresh grooming after Friday's 3 inches of wet snow on top of a icy base made for a great ski. Temps just below freezing kept snow from transforming but it was still slow. Coverage was excellent over 95% of the trail. A few water bars and one bare patch were the only problem areas. Groomers did a great job as they have all season with a excellent base but multiple thaws and rain events. It was a great year on the North Shore and it should last a while longer.

The skiing is still going strong on the norwegian riviera. They had just groomed the picnic loop. It looks like there is about a foot of base snow depth still. The skate deck was firm and fast with 2 inches of new course granular snow. No wax classic skis or klister is a good bet this time of the year for classic skiing.

I found the Onion River skate deck perfectly groomed this morning and the groomer had spent many hours (by another skier's report) breaking up the ice and setting two very nice classic tracks. The Tofte weather report shows below freezing nights and warm days in the near future so there's every reason to expect good skiing lasting for awhile. Tree litter is still there in patches so it's a skier's choice: pick through the litter on your A skis or bring the B ski.

Skated Onion River Road today and I saw that the groomer had been elsewhere as well. Groomed yesterday and there's just enough chop on top of the thawed/refrozen layer for good control. For the most part good skis are fine but there are frequent patches of tree litter where you'll want to carefully pick your way - a B ski would be a more relaxing way to go. Classic tracks did not appear to be groomed and the Sugarbush trail report said they were too icy to groom. The tracks are still present and clearly defined.

Temps were above freezing today as I skied from the Oberg parking lot around the Picnic loop and Homestead loops back to Oberg. Classic tracks were a little glazed but quite firm. Very little debris but some. I used Rode Violet wax which slipped in the uphills in the track but gripped fine out of the track. Skate deck was also firm. Seemed like the base was mostly over 6 inches on the bridges, but there were a few places especially on the lower return from Homestead that were getting thin. A couple of places had water holes that were starting to encroach on the trail but as of yet, I did not consider them to be a hazard.

After receiving a couple of inches of new snow our trail system was groomed, new tracks set. Skiers were out on the trails, the tracks have not had time to set up yet so there are some washed out areas typically nearer to the trailhead. I skied up onto Homestead Loop from "J", no wash out. The ice from the previous warm up has been churned up, the trails are fast but manageable. Debris below Spruce trees but other than that skiing the Sugarbush puts a smile on my face. VR40 worked well for kick. Talked to a skier completing the Picnic Loop, sounds like great skiing there also!

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
We received 1" or so of new snow last night, which allows our groomers to touchup the trails. We have a solid base and good coverage. Grooming of the entire system is in progress.

Skied the Maple and Upland Loop from the Moose Fence access. Skate deck solid with a nice light dusting of snow on top. Really pleased with the conditions. Some of the areas through coniferous forest sections had a good amount of needle and pine cone detritus on the trail which slowed those sections down a bit. Beautiful ski. Snow conditions better Sugarbush as compared to Pincushion which I skied on Saturday (Pincushion was super fast and icy).
