2015-2016 season

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Bare ground ]
I did a quick afternoon skate here Sunday. Skate deck was mostly ice through the woods and softer in the sun-exposed areas. Overall, it was pretty ski-able and a nice day to be out. A few avoidable spots on the back side were starting to get exposed and I had to take my skis off and walk the final 200 meters in to the parking lot once I got to the lake/paved trail as most of that was melted. The wide, gradual downhill straight section before the lake was in the best shape and was enjoyable to ski, despite all of the footprints.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Good for classic.
Groomed several days ago. Walkers and the start of the trail made it a bit rough but after the first split it was very nice. Skate and classic was great! Hard to believe better than Murphy yesterday.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Conditions: A loop was very good to good for skating. Sunny, mid to high 20's. Brisk south/southeast wind. Used FastWax Red.
Still very good coverage but a little rutted at the top of the long hill. Foot traffic caused some damage on the west side trail returning to the trailhead. Took me 25 minutes to cover the 2.8 miles.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Conditions: A-loop was very good for skating. 100% coverage. 26 degrees. The trail was packed several days ago and skier-tracked for classic. Just a few clots of dirt easily avoided. Practically litter free. I used FastWax Red.
I was pleasantly surprised by the good conditions for my first outing of the season. Only one skier was departing when I arrived at 4:00. Met no one on the trail. Only complaints was one likely tire rut that created a "hole" in the middle of the trail near the beginning and narrowness of the trail in that first wooded section that had me fearing I would catch my shovels. (I didn't.) Wasn't sure about wax choice at first. But once I hit the broad "freeway" for the return from the north end, I was able to sustain my skate for the entire 1.25+ miles remaining. I covered the entire 2.8 miles in about 25 minutes.
