Trail Reports

2022-2023 season
Reports 1 to 4 of 4    Month: Jan | Dec
Sunday, January 8, 2023
Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
Plenty of snow but terrible grooming. Trails not properly packed and very soft. Poles often sink in 1-2 feet. Trails very narrow in some places making it difficult to skate without hitting the snow banks at the sides. Classic track set in about 50% of the trail, but in many places the trail is too narrow for both classic and skating.

Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Classic is the way to go at Heartwood until further snowfall and regrooming. Very soft on skate deck and classic tracks. Skate deck was in very poor condition due to the following: 1) A large portion of the trail has a 10" wide depression down the middle, 2) there are classic tracks set on both sides making it impossible to skate without damaging one or both, 3) considerable amounts of debris on the trail.

First time skiing at Heartwood. Trails were really soft. Skated skied and was digging in. Classic skiers looked like they were have a great time kicking. Classic ski is the way to go. There is lots of snow!
