A wonderful day on the trails here at Point Beach - our first time here, and we were pleasantly surprised! On the way out from the trailhead (after the first 100 yards or so) the double tracks are deep, fast, and fun- lightly rolling, a bit curvy, and all around interesting. When you hit the turnaround at the tip of Green (after 3.3+miles) it joins the ice age trail, so a bit rougher on the way back, but still fun...just a bit more technical given the conditions and damage from hikers. That said, you can still get into a good stride, practicing all the best the sport has to offer. We even stopped for a moment to enjoy amazing views of Lake Michigan. We would highly recommend checking it out. Huge thanks to the state groomers!

I did the Red and Blue loops of Ridges Trail from 8-11 AM. Their rolling straightaways were fast, with excellent push and glide. A handful of spots closest to the Lake on the Blue loop are exposed soil because of sun, otherwise trails were sufficiently covered. Saturday morning's 2" of powder helped to build the walls of Friday's machined-but-shallow tracks, and skiers have further compressed the bottoms, so staying in those tracks wasn't an issue, even at speed. That sun was softening things as I was leaving. Today's the day.

Wow, just wow. So glad to see on Facebook on Friday morning that the Ridges trails were groomed and track. Immediately got dressed and gathered up skis. Trails were awesome. Double track on most of the Ridges Trail. This was the first time in two years we could ski here. So beautiful. Our favorite place. Thank you, Quinn, for the extra effort in grooming. You did great. There were many happy faces out on the trail.

Ridges and Red Pine Trails all had twin sets of groomed tracks, except the east side of Ridges where trail coincides with the Ice Age Trail. There it's a single set of tracks parallel to a 2'-4' wide compacted base for hikers. Though tracks are set, they're not deep in the 6" snow of Wednesday and Thursday, so some curves were already wallowed. Otherwise, trails were in good condition and both push and glide were very-good to excellent. We're only four weeks from equinox and the sun now has some heat, so this morning's ski conditions will not long last.

A handful of dejected skiers including me tried the trails, but the recent 3" snow over basically-bare ground just didn't work. I was able to gingerly ski a couple miles of undisturbed paved park roads, but conditions even there were deteriorating markedly as noon approached. So, no.

Trails received only a 2" snow from this recent storm, and it's coarsely granular, heavy, and incompressible. Trails appear to be not skiable.

Was out Sunday morning hiking and clearing debris from the Red Pine ski trail. It had 1" of dry snow Thursday, 2" of slush Friday that melded into it and froze, then another 1" snow on Saturday (and another 1" this morning). Not skiable, but it seems to be a solid base. Pretty exciting.
