Still a solid base but getting dirty on top. Many downed trees caused some short detours and additional melting. There was still good glide on the areas between. I stepped off the trail to see the river and sunk to my knees, see the difference in the poles. The sound of the high water river rushing by was awesome!

Wow! What a treat. Trails are groomed and in great condition after the latest snowstorm. Skin skis worked great. By noon trails were softening but still in great condition.

Tracks were quite icy in all but a few spots this morning. Luckily the snow on each side of the tracks is soft so you can ski with one ski out of the tracks to slow down. Most skiers opted to walk the steep downhill at the end.

Beautiful day for a ski, some debris in tracks and snow drifting in open sections, but overall nice set of tracks. Always such a treat to visit these pretty woods.

The tracks that were groomed yesterday are still in nearly perfect condition - some of the best I have ever been on here.

Excellent track, brilliant, pristine, freshly groomed, there may have been 3 or 4 skiers out before me. The old school narrow single track winding through the forest is a classic. Download trail map, as signage is also old school.

Not yet groomed after the big snow yesterday but two cars were in the parking lot before us and had self tracked beautifully. At the last minute we applied liquid glide wax and boy was it needed to keep from clumping up! Blue skies, sunny day and skiing along a river and in the woods at 36 degrees. Doesn't get any better than a day like this on the north shore!

All trails are classic, single track only. Skied outer loop including spur to Bean Lake. Trails were freshly groomed and all trails were In beautiful condition. Surprisingly few people on the trails for a beautiful Sunday. Noted that the Palisade Valley trail (to Tettegouche) is not groomed.

With all of the great reports lately I had to get up to Northwoods as it is one of my favorite trails. The conditions were as good as I have seen there with great grooming, deep snow and no debris or ice. I skied into Bean Lake. Saw lots of wolf tracks along the way. If you are lucky enough to catch it with these conditions after it has been freshly groomed you won't be disappointed.

Is there a conspiracy keeping this trail secret? Northwoods has it all: scenery, solitude, and closeness to nature. The south/west end is flat and rolling, while the north/east end has longer ups and downs; at least in today's conditions, none of the caution downhills required braking or rapid turning. I was making first pole plants on new grooming of the couple inches that recently fell. The track was soft, and I punched through occasionally, but it wasn't frequent enough to diminish the experience. Put on the powder baskets and goop on the kick wax to let the skis do the work. Thank you groomers!
