Trail Reports

2017-2018 season
Reports 31 to 40 of 46    Month: Apr | Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec
Wednesday, January 24, 2018
Afternoon
Firsthand: Both
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
Most of the trails have been groomed. There are some narrowed spots where trees are still overhanging the trails. The skating deck within 1K of the chalet is fairly firm, but beyond that it has soft spots and needs to set up more. No tracks set anywhere.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Both
[ Trails Open: Partial, Good skis ]
Our 8" of heavy snow makes for a beautiful snow globe appearance, but it also caused many trees to break over the trails and many more to bend over trails. The crew worked most of the day removing trees from the trails and managed to groom about 2K late in the afternoon. The skating deck is soft. No tracks were set.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Spring skiing: firm skating deck that softened just a bit as the temps approached 36 and then the deck was firm and fast with easy edge control. The cardinals are singing so that means the oak leaves have started falling and blowing into the classic tracks, which are mostly clear but there are sections of difficult classical with waxed skis. Excellent skating, very good classical.

Firsthand: Freestyle

Everything is grand to ski on. I did the outermost loop, saw 25 or more skiers. Groomed earlier in the day, still a bit fluffy but where skied it was more packed down.

Evening
Firsthand: Both
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
All trails have been groomed for skating, including segments that were close due to damage from sledders. Skating deck is firm and fast. Tracks set on all the trails except no tracks are set on hills. Lights are on until 9:00 pm. Very good to excellent conditions for both skating and classic.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
The 3" of new snow we received last night has not been groomed. Deep, slow skating. The classic tracks are deep from use and are in good shape. The parking lot was not plowed, either.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Both
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Classic tracks are firm throughout and fast in stretches. No tracks set from the chalet to point #25 along the ridge. No tracks set on any of the hills. No grooming at all from points 120 to 122 on the far east end due to damage on the steep hill from sledders. Skating deck is mostly firm but needs to set up for some speed. Overall very good skiing.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Skate deck has firmed up and has good coverage over the entire trail system. Classic tracks haven't been set yet on some of the trails that usually have them and require some care when they have been. Some leaf and stick debris in tracks and areas with grass or dirt poking up, particularly on the "I" Loop. Occasional glazed spots in the tracks but not icy enough to prevent kick.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Both
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
Grooming of our 3-4" of new snow has been completed on most of the trails as of 2:00 p.m. and the groomer was still working. Only the far east loop was not groomed at all. The skating deck is smooth but a bit soft in places. Wherever the groomer went he set tracks--the first of the season. The track setter in many places went down to the underlying icy snow left over from the meltdown, so the tracks are mostly fast with occasional soft spots. On the lower loop there are many places were the remnants of brush and grass are poking up into the tracks. Overall very good conditions for both classic and skating.
