The core trails had all been groomed on Wednesday. However, there was approximately four inches of new snow from Thursday evening. Therefore, I used my classic skis and skied most of the core trails. I even broke trail on the Nekoosa trail which was quite a struggle. Overall, conditions were good. There was a fair number of people skiing today so the classic tracks ended up being pretty good.

Just want to add that skating was great also. Very bright sunny blue skies. Remember your sunglasses! If you have a trick to prevent snowball baskets it would come in handy. I just bang them on my boots occasionally.

Groomers got about 20 km of trails perfected last night after another 6" fell overnight. Trails were crisp, clean, and had great coverage! I mean, can it get any better than this in April? My Swix vr50 was kicking well and and I had a great 10 km ski under the sun. But honestly, the pictures are worth a thousand words.

There seemed to be a fair number of trails open today with a fresh 2+ inches over the 10-12 that had already fallen and been groomed. The groomers came in from skiing just as we were about to go out, so the old adage of "follow the groomers" took on a new meaning as they had skied in about 10k or really nice track. My Terva Blue had just a bit of icing after the hour or so ski, but not enough to make a difference in my April ski. From the looks of the weather it should be nice through the weekend.

Conditions were similar to January but without the extreme cold temps. I used my New Fischer Skins for an 80 minute ski and felt there was good kick except for a few small icy spots. With this new 10" of snow from Saturday there was very little tree debris to be seen. Skiing is by donation only for the wonderful extended skiing season. I estimated about 25 to 30 K groomed.

All the inner loops and island hop was groomed by the piston bully to perfection. Phenomenal conditions for mid January, let alone early April. Should be good-excellent skiing conditions for quite some time. Island Hop was in the best condition ever, even better than two weeks ago. Silver Strider, Tornado Alley and X-C Express were in excellent shape and fast. The longest trails like Lake Marie, Wolf Tracks and River Run were not groomed. What a great winter up north. Thank you winter park. A perfect day and Easter!
