About 10 inches of fresh medium density snow last night. Skate lanes are packed. Tracks are set on most open trails and the groomer is out setting more now. The area expects to be open through the first week of April.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Almost all of our trails are still open, and in great spring skiing condition. Plans are to groom overnight as the snow comes in. Skate deck is holding up, some classic tracks are washed out, but skiable. We plan to be open this weekend.

Skied about 15 km on fun and fast trails this morning! Conditions were great on most trails with some thin spots showing up here and there. Even got a bit of crust skiing in on Yukon Bog! Even though there will be no new grooming this season, trails will be open for donation-only skiing starting Monday and you can bet I'll be back for more!

Great Spring skiing again today- All the core trails had been groomed overnight. The skate deck had ample snow and the trails were fast and fun. Pole plant was poor in sporadic spots but other than that conditions were good to very good. It's not that fresh courderoy you get in peak season but rather a crusty courderoy. Wolf Tracks had also been groomed as far as the cabin- Beyond that, the trail was crusty ice but still skiable with good control. I was able to loop back on it. Lake Marie and River Run were closed. Survivor to Yukon to Island Hop made for a nice loop. Island Hop was in the best condition I have ever seen on that trail. Don't miss it.

Had a wonderful day of skiing this morning. I skated 17 km on the freshly groomed interior trails and was treated to some fast and fun skiing! Tornado Alley, Base Loop, Survivor, and Island Hop are not to be missed! The Pisten Bully tilled in a lot of the debris that was showing up on the piney trails and I was pleasantly surprised on how clean most trails are. Most areas had great coverage with only a few thin spots here and there, but nothing posed much of a problem: It is almost April after all! Ski in the morning before things get too soft! However, if you plan to ski any of the ungroomed trails, letting them soften up a bit would be a good idea. Cheer to spring skiing!

The Spring skiing is fantastic at Minocqua Winter Park. The website reports icy conditions in the morning and suggests mid-afternoon skiing for softer trails. I skied from noon to 3:00pm and I found the recommendation to be spot on. I skied River Run first and 90% was firm, fast, and fun. The other 10% was soft and slow. Most of the trails are shaded with a firm fast deck. I would call the deck crusty rather than icy. I preferred that to the soft conditions where the track is exposed to the warm Spring sun. I skied 20 plus kilometers. It is definitely worth checking out but I doubt it will last much longer. I will be back tomorrow morning.

I was pleasantly surprised with my skate ski on River Run. I expected more debris on the pine bluff on the return. Tracks looked intermittant and soft on that particular trail. With that exception Tracks and skating lanes were great and fast every where else. Around noon the downhills became very tricky with irregular sticky spots.

Great conditions still exist at Winter Park. Island Hop is phenomenal. Should be fine thru next weekend. The freeze/thaw cycle is providing for some fast skiing in the morning and most of the snow is cold below so the afternoons are not that slow. Lake Marie and C and D are my other favorites, but great skiing exist throughout. Get it before it's gone.

After playing the waiting game to find the temperature sweet spot, I hit the trails and was treated with a fabulous day of spring skiing! Even with no grooming the night before, the tracks were mostly deep, solid, and fast. For those wax gurus out there Swix VR 45 was working well in the morning but would have benefited from a layer of klister base binder. It sounds like more trails will be groomed for the weekend so head on over for some stellar skiing!

Had a great spring ski today on Lake Marie. Still a lot of snow on the trails with no thin spots. Some pine debris but easily avoidable. Pisten bully was out grooming and trails were very good were it had been. Snow was silky smooth in most areas and fast. Some small icy spots on south facing slopes but nothing melting through yet.
