Skied the trails that will be on Wolf Tracks Rendevzvous 42 k. Trails are overall in very good condition. Some debris in the tracks but mostly avoidable by going out of the tracks for a few yards. A few spots down to dirt and grass but not many and only for about a foot or less at a time. Not icy today.

Skied Wolf Tracks and Nekoosa today. Nearly perfect conditions. Pisten bully set out some beautiful tracks and perfect cord on the skate deck. Trail was groomed for both skate and classic. It is normally classic only. But is being prepared for upcoming Wolf Track Rendezvous race in two weeks. So come on out to get your training in before the race.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Trails are now rated "Excellent" and have had some touch-up grooming done almost every day this week. All trails are open except for Island Hop which was closed due to ice. We are looking to re-open it again after the next snowfall. Tracks are firm and the skate decks are solid! We've been having some of the best conditions of the year this week.

All major trails open, one short connector trail was not. Otherwise, beautiful conditions on this extensive trail system with snow falling most of the day and sun often shining through the cloud deck. Pisten Bully groomed, tracks laid throughout system. Great place for family outings, not only does it have a great tubing hill with tow rope, MWP has the best food and drinks of any xc ski area in Wisconsin. Plus a nice fireplace and comfy cushioned chairs. Oh, and a full service ski shop.

There was 5 inches of snow on Thursday. Conditions are excellent. Trails like Maria were rolled early and a little soft. The others are great.

The 4-5 inches of new snow Thursday night were good for the trails. We skied today and everything was ship-shape. The groomers spent the night accomplishing as much as they could, with all trails rolled for skate and they are in the process of setting track for classic. Some of the outlying trails (Lake Marie) could stand another pass for skating, but that is their plan. You can safely ski your first string skis here, and things should be complete by Saturday.

Skied each day this weekend and Monday at Winter Park. Skated Base Loop, Nose Dive, Yukon, and out to Lake Marie and back via Beaver Pond on Monday... classical skied out to Nekoosa and Wolf Tracks on Sunday... a bit of each on Saturday on many of the trails. They were all in good shape, well-groomed and fun with only occasional thin spots. River Run was reported to be a bit thinner than the rest. Always a great time at this wonderful trail system!

River Run is one of the best trails around. I skated it today. Snow was a little sparse along the river but other than that conditions were very good. Glide was reasonable considering the colder temps. At least contrail is very good at those cold temps. I also classic skied the Wilderness Pine Trail which was very nice. Again, control was better then it might have been at warmer temps. MWP just done an outstanding job of grooming. Kudos to the groomers!

Skied Tornado alley, Survivor, and Nutcracker today. These trails are not as heavily skied as the core interior trails. They have very good snow cover with no noticeable bare spots. Tracks are good and clean just a few oak leaves here and there. Skied out on Wolf tracks yesterday. Conditions out on that trail was very good with only a few thin spots. It is double tracked for classic only. Make sure to hit steeple chase on your way out or back from Wolf tracks. It's a blast.

It was still 5 below upon arrival at 1:00 pm. Chalet was warm and inviting but I didn't spend much time there as the trails were calling my name, in particular the Lake Marie trail which was closed for logging last season. Trail conditions were very good overall with only small spots of sparse snow which were easily skied around. Unfortunately, we lost beautiful wooded sections of C & D Express (after road crossing) to logging and now they are completely exposed. Winds were light so it wasn't a problem this day but it could be brutal otherwise. Temperatures had warmed up to around zero 22k and about 2.5 hours later. As always, Minocqua Winter Park groomers do an outstanding job.
