Trail Reports

2016-2017 season
Reports 71 to 79 of 79    Month: Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec
Monday, December 26, 2016
Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Heavy rain overnight, followed by blustery winds. Debris and some trees on trail, but base still intact. Some water collection in low areas. No grooming done so far. They may be able to break up the ice, but need to avoid going too deep. Recommend that you wait for further updates before skiing at Nine Mile.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Both classic and skate lanes very good to excellent. Skate lanes level with minimal soft spots. No rocks. Classic track firm and smooth. A few soft pole plants, but again, no rocks. The usual oak leaves, but no other debris. Best ski conditions in the last two years.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
Skate lanes in good condition with marginal base. Track set on most trails in marginal base. Track was set with low snow unit and the track setter does not lock in position.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
Skate lanes groomed again today. Conditions excellent. No sign of any grooming for classic skiing, right side of trail totally ungroomed in many areas. No attempt to set tracks anywhere in the system. Would strongly encourage classic skiers to find alternative areas to ski. Very disappointing.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Both
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Hard, thin base set up last week with decent skating on rock skis. Good to see them out rolling and dragging with the lighter Track Truck this morning. After this snowfall gets groomed and sets up in the cold the trails should be fantastic at 9 Mile! Many thanks to the groomers for the great work they are doing out on the trails today!

Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: Partial, B skis ]
Skied 9 Mile at noon today. Rock solid skating base, firm and flat with very minimal debris. Great grooming of dry powder snow. Classic track rock solid with 90% white and very good. Spots along in the tracks of debris and dirt. Excellent early ski conditions.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Partial, B skis ]
Conditions: Fair for skate, no tracks at this time. 10 K trail open for skate only. All other trails remain closed. Received 5 inches of powder snow Sunday. Trails were packed and groomed for comb. Trail base is thin ... early season conditions. Attempted to set track but not enough snow. Skate skiing only at this time.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Rock skis ]
Trails were groomed today with Piston Bully and wide drag. Deep tracks set. Numerous areas of gravel pulled up into skate lanes and classic track gouged down to red granite base at regular intervals. Use rock skis or worse and be prepared for abrupt stops. Very disappointing after similar problems occurred last year. Would not recommend skiing at Nine Mile until grooming issues resolved or large dump of snow minimizes risk of similar problems.
