Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
Fresh snow Saturday night. Started at 10:45 am, finished at 2. Skied (classic) leo's loop, 10k and 6 k, which were just groomed, - excellent conditions, blue wax. Temps stayed between 25 and 32 but with intermittent wind gusts so classic tracks were sometimes filled with blowing powder. Felt colder than 25 due to wind. Sun shone intermittently. 20 K not groomed, apparently - no plans to groom today. Did not see anyone making tracks there.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
All trails are still open. Some areas with a thin base and some debris. Plan to groom early tomorrow morning with the focus on the 10K then the 6K. Conditions are a little challenging, but to be expected with the recent ice storm. Good feedback from skiers as far as the proper wax to use in order to maximize the experience.

Surprisingly good considering the ice storm of Sunday and Monday. Reworked snow and a very firm trail made for fast skiing. The classical tracks varied from shallow in a few places to deep and firm in others. Much less debris than last week. Blue klister worked well. Hard wax for old snow might also have worked but the conditions were very abrasive, so even then a binder layer of green or blue klister would be best. The tracks were hard enough that I'm not sure waxless skis would get good grip, but they were not glazed. Definitely worth skiing.

Excellent conditions. Trails Piston Bully groomed with Smooth skate deck and excellent tracks. Good conditions to test skis ahead of Birkie, or warm up on the way North.

The trails and tracks were in good shape with only a few scattered patches. No softening noticed even in the warmest part of the day (36 degrees) The oak leaves were present in numbers on some sections but the blue klister with a red special hard wax topping we used wasn't greatly affected by them. Beautiful day of skiing.

Snow was falling the entire time I was there. So, the morning groom work was getting covered up. Some of the tracks were getting filled in, but conditions were still good. I only found one icy hill and about 1km of the finishing stretch to the chalet was left untracked (probably due to a thin and icy base).

Trails were much better than expected. I skied until 2:30 as things were starting to soften up. I was truly amazed to find packed powder in the shady areas with the air temps in the low 40's! They plan to groom Friday.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
With the warm conditions yesterday and today, trails are on the fast side. Some leaves on the system. Most of the system is in good condition despite the limited snow to work with. Skiers should be cautions of areas of the trail under trees as this is where the base is thin and icy. We will groom again Friday morning and through the weekend.

Strided the 20k loop today around noon. Used skin skis, which was probably a good call. Still had a lot of slipping with the warm snow, but I'm glad I didn't use klister, as there were a lot of oak leaves in the track. There is some pine debris as well where the trees hang over the trail. Trails were actually fast, despite the warm snow. It was 44 degrees in the parking lot when I left. Pretty decent day, but I suspect it might be icy until we get more snow. They've done a very nice job grooming, but there's not a lot to work with. Skate deck had nice coverage, and looked pretty clean, but heard reports that it was getting soft. It seemed pretty fast, however, when I jumped out of the tracks. Beautiful day to be out.
