Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
We had a great Grooming Clinic, well attended with participants and with many Vendors. The new date and format seemed to increase attendance and vendor participation.

An inch or two of fresh snow on top of firm base made for great skating! They have a deep base.
Added bonus of a sunny day and perfect temps. 100% coverage.

The recent snow (nice amount of moisture) freshly groomed on top of a very sold base made for a nice gliding and velvety soft ride on the skate trails this morning. While all of the trails are open, I stayed on the 'inner' trails today. With beautiful sunshine and temps in mid twenties it was the kind of day where you just don't want to stop.

A beautiful glide fest at ABR today. The skate trails were super solid but a bit of overnight dusting and occasional flurries kept things in control. The good news on the classic only trails was that pole plants didn't punch through as in previous days. The dusting of snow slowed things down considerably in places. The more skied in parts produced a bit of glaze that produced better glide. I used no wax skis so kick was not an issue. I think grip wax would have been tricky- one skier telling me that his klister was icing up. Things have moved in the right direction. Today was the first day in a long time that I had to scrape my windshield.

After a week or so of temps above freezing and lots of rain it finally went below freezing last night for a few hours. This made for a combo of glaze and snow that was a blast to glide on. Some of the downhill turns had some slippage and produced some excitement but mostly just great glide and enough give to stay in control. The classic track next to the skate deck was slick and fast-klister or no wax would have been good. The classic only trails have more debris and unlike the track near the skate deck the poles punched thru. The glacier like refrigeration under the surface did it's trick this last week. Toward the end at about 1 pm little white stuff was flying around-hopefully a foretaste of the feast to come.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
We had another good day of skiing today. Three groomers were out again this morning re-grooming the main trails and spending some extra time cleaning up any debris brought up by the PB's over the weekend. The trails still have a good solid skiable base. We groomed 20 km including setting new tracks this morning but we have 50 km open for skiing. We are heading back out in the morning to check the 23 km to the south and start prepping them for the expected Wednesday-Thursday Snow and winter temps. We will be touching up the grooming on the main trails again in the early morning.

Milwaukee Nordic Ski Club found good conditions on Sunday after Saturday's rain. Plenty of snow, well groomed for skate and classic. A bit soft with a few wet spots. Expect it to return to excellent when the weather cools down to normal.

Several days of temps above freezing, lots of rain, and super dense fog = another good day of skiing at ABR? T'is true. I thought by now that I knew a lot about weather and snow. I thought I'd be constantly punching thru with my poles and sinking down on my skis but that hardly ever happened. I put some 12 year old hf toko paste wax on and the glide was great at first. Then things slowed down a bit. Probably the colder snow tilled to the surface started warming up - but still really enjoyable. Dirt spots have started to show but it was easy to ski around them. Cooler weather will be a welcome relief to this bizarre January Weather.

Hard to believe I was buying klister at ABR in January... should be special blue conditions. Despite rain, conditions still good and base holding up.

I skied abr yesterday morning and then again this morning and it was really good. Very firm skate deck but of course no ice with the temperature hitting 40 degrees. Off and on mist but mostly dry this morning so it was very pleasant. Used my classic o's and kicked up just about everything. Glide was good but probably would have been better if I didn't have nf blue on... Making skiing this good with these conditions is another example of the incredible care and grooming by eric and his crew.
