Everything was groomed perfectly the day after the Bear Chase. Temps in the mid teens, alternating sunshine and snow showers, and the wind was a mere wisp. Couldn't have been any better!

Wonderful skating at Swedetown today. They did an amazing job grooming! Fast, perfect coverage, and all the debris is gone after the high winds.

Great conditions today for both skating and classic. The mix of new snow and tilled snow groomed up perfectly. Fast but not too fast, no ice, plenty of loose stuff in the skate lane for great edging. Tracks were solid and fast. Just minor debris under the pines. Winds have lessened significantly from the past 2 days, but it's still pretty breezy. Race grooming is well underway, so the few sections that are not part of the race course were not groomed.

Despite the warmup and rain in the region the last 2 days, things are great at Swedetown. There is a deep base and fresh snow falling. The groomer was able to turn up the serious ice layer and conditions were fast but edge-able. The 45-mile per hour wind off the lake for the last two days brought down a fair amount of tree debris... it also caused some relatively minimal drifting, reduced visibility, and challenging pole swing. But, it was excellent skiing and makes me wish I could stay for the Bear Chase.

It was windy today even by Keweenaw standards, but with the wind and cold came a few inches of fresh snow which groomed up nicely into the existing tilled base. Open areas had drifting snow, but skating in the sheltered areas was really, really nice. Good glide and great edging.

Post-meltdown Bear Chase report: After a sloppy Monday, the advertised cold front arrived Tuesday morning with wind, snow flakes, and temps back down in the 20s. It's supposed to stay plenty cold through race day. As you can see in the attached pic, there is still ample base which should groom up nicely when grooming resumes tomorrow.

Fantastic conditions and great base! Should be perfect for next weekend's Great Bear Chase! The temps were still cold in the UP this past weekend, and there is plenty of base to weather a bit of a warmup if there is one. If you're thinking of doing the Bear Chase, it is a great year for it!

I skated the 10K Bear Chase course, and it's in perfect condition. Sunny, 12 degrees, and the 3 inches of new snow from yesterday set up perfectly. Early Bear Chase forecast is for temps in the low 20s, so it should be a great day!

Another morning of excellent skiing on Swedetown trails. They were freshly groomed and work is being done to ready the start area for the Great Bear Chase on March 11. Skated this morning, all trails open and groomed, with about 1 1/2 ft base. Picture of Ed's Loop with the morning sun beginning to show through the trees.

Excellent conditions at Swedetown today. 24+" base. We skied every trail (~24Km) plus the start/finish area for the Great Bear Chase. Fresh 6-10" of snow since the last warm-up. Ran into the groomers finishing up their last lap with the new Husky Prinoth Groomer. What a machine!
