Trail Reports

2016-2017 season
Reports 12 to 20 of 20    Month: Jan | Dec
Thursday, December 22, 2016
Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Most, Rock skis ]
Icy conditions at 9 AM (with temps in the mid 20's). Difficult to hold an edge. Rocks and debris poking through the snow.
Definitely need another 3-4 inch of snow to get conditions good again. Watch out for the rocks on the uphills, downhills and just before the end of the loop.

Night
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Rock skis ]
Icy and pretty beat up, but skiable. Skied the outer loop with headlamps which was better than the lighted section. Looked like someone was out with their atv tearing up part of the trail, which actually made it more skiable.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
The big hill at the far end of the trail is still ungroomed. The trail overall today is holding up well - but there is a lot of dirt debris and brown spots showing throughout the course so I don't think the trail will handle many more days like this before it is rock skis or bare ground.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Good conditions. Hard packed. Rolled corduroy on Monday morning. Tuesday morning was not but was packed down by the skiers from the day before. Some debris popping through the trail. No major rocks. Trails were tracked for classical skiing. 90% of the trail system open.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Classic skied the outer loop (Ironwood). Tracks were very good, infrequent bits of weed sticking up.

Observation
[ Trails Open: All ]
I walked the paved trail but saw many skiers on lighted loop and it looks inviting with a track set for classical skiing. What a gorgeous night!

Night
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Skated the lighted loop a couple of times tonight, pretty good coverage, a few rough spots. Classic track looked pretty bad in spots.

Evening
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
What a difference a day makes - trails were well packed and tracked. I was only able to ski the lit trails but they were well groomed and firm. You can definitely use your B skis for skating - I'd hesitate to use skis you don't want damaged on the classic tracks. Still some grass / debris sticking out - but it was a great night for a ski.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Trails are rolled but not tracked. Definitely not race ski ready - very loose and areas of bare ground showing. But we got snow and it is very skiable.
