Awesome skiing on the system. I skied from Moose Fence to the Sawbill cabin at Oberg Overlook parking. Snow was fast in spots. Great grooming, solid and thick skate deck and decent classic tracks. People were out enjoying the beautiful sunny sky. Moose were sharing the trail with me near the Upland Loop.

Onion River Road in great shape for both skate and classic. A quick peek over the first couple hundred yards of Britton Peak found good skating and nice classic tracks and a narrower trail picking up more tree litter.

The latest heat wave has really saturated the snow. I had no kick on my waxed skis, but my wife had fish-scales and had great kick. The trails were really nicely groomed, with a good skate deck and freshly set tracks. I would say either go waxless or skate.

Drove up from the Twin Cities Friday to ski the Sugarbush trails. Started at Britton Peak and skied over to Oberg Mountain, Onion River Road, Picnic Loop, Moose Fence/Maple Loop and finished back at Britton Peak Trailhead. Absolutely wonderful conditions. If you want some serious hill training this is the place to ski. The hills on the Picnic loop starting by Onion River Road over to the Maple Loop and finishing on the back side of the Picnic Loop are unreal. I've skied the Birkie Trail and Giants Ridge many many times and Sugarbush might be tougher with those relentless hills. Had an absolute blast for 3.5 hours. Well worth the drive!

We skied Moose Fence this afternoon. The classic tracks were in great shape. We had no trouble with grip on our waxless skis. The downhills heading to the parking lot were getting a bit icy by 4:00. It was a very good ski considering the warmth we have had this week.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
All of our trails have been groomed with the Pisten Bully in recent days. Conditions are good to very good and some people would say excellent. We had 30-36" of new snow fall last week, so groomers have been busy packing and grooming. Base depth varies from 8-12". Touch up grooming will continue as needs arise. This photo is from Tuesday. Enjoy!

The Onion River Road (ORR) this morning is what makes us nostalgic about late-winter skiing. The folks who groom this trail system give the impression of being the most reliable and relentless, but after such heavy snows right before and again over the weekend, I had doubts as to whether the base could possibly set up well enough in just a couple of days, especially absent any truly frigid, nighttime temperatures. Not to worry: it was great out there today. Such a wide and even skating lane, with a set of sharp, deep classic tracks on both sides - I jumped in them on some of the downhills. The light breeze and bright, blue sky were icing on the cake. To top it off, barring a serious heat wave or rain-out, I'm guessing trail conditions will only improve with each passing day - plus the usual touching-up by the groomers. We live near Mora, but usually try to make a 'pilgrimage' up to the ORR at least once a ski season. My wife and I are hoping to come again at the end of the week and possibly bring along one of our granddaughters. Thanks to all those who've made this place so rewarding for skiers... even for those of us who live three hours away!

Skied the Onion River Loop. Groomer there on a Sunday morning to begin drumming down the 12 news inches of snow overnight. That made it easy for our group to set up some good tracks for classic skiing. Temps in the high 20's. Trees laden with snow. Creation at it's best. Feel lucky to experience Sugarbush at such a pristine moment. Thanks to the groomer! Your speedy effort created a great day for many skiers.

Britton Peak Trailhead (A-B-C-D-E-and back). Classic track firmly set after recent snowfalls. Skating deck packed, but be careful, it is soft on the deck edge opposite the classic tracks. Excellent new snow and plenty of it!

Onion River Road (W-X-M-L-W): After last night's significant snowfall, skate deck groomed but very soft. A difficult slog as skis sink about 2" into the snow. Intended to run to end of Onion River Road and back but cut it short as even skating downhill was much work. Wish we had used our classic skis instead as tracks were nicely set and firm. Picture postcard beautiful with the fresh snow. Should be ideal for skate as well as classic once it sets up. Good, dry snow.
