New Reports Report Requests

Notes

Maintained by Elk River Nordic Nordic Ski Club, these trails have become a hot-spot for fantastic skiing in the North Metro. Trails are largely wooded over rolling terrain, but some sections have good climbs and descents. Trails consist of several interconnected loops and are aptly named--be sure to check out the "Top-of-the-World" and "Gravity Box" as well as "Wash Pond Flats" to the NE of the biathlon range. There is not a warming shack, but at least one port-o-potty at the main parking lot. Primarily groomed for skate (not always tracked for classic).

Trail Reports

2015-2016 season
Reports 22 to 31 of 31    Month: Feb | Jan | Dec
Tuesday, December 29, 2015
Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Bare ground ]
Conditions: Very thin use caution and rock skis.
It looks like the snow drought of 2015 at Woodlands continues. There is only an inch of new snow at Woodlands. Some of the sticks are now covered but the paved trails need to be skied with caution. If anyone has a Christmas wish left please request more snow for 2016 at Woodlands.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Bare ground ]
The snow shield must have been left on. Only a skinny 0.5 inch of new snow landed at Woodlands. Conditions slightly improved...now poor to fair. some dirt and bare spots have been covered...but many remain. Recommend rock skis.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Bare ground ]
Conditions: Thin, loose snow over frozen dirt and asphalt.
Rock skis for sure. Quite skiable when on the one way outer loop, with occasional patches of dirt or wood debris. The difficult part is navigating the asphalt sections to get back to the start of the loop. I recommend the railroad trail to get back to the start.

Grooming
[ Bare ground ]
Babe just reported in that he and Ancient One just finished pulling the light screens for our Monday skiing pleasure. As reported earlier, the base is to thin to cover all ski scratching hard things. There are a few spots on the asphalt trails that have no coverage that you will need to watch out for. Ski with appropriate caution.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Bare ground ]
Conditions: Full coverage but loose snow. Rocks skis until more snow.
Skied the 10km loop. Tried to go slow and careful but still had the sick feeling of the ski tugging on something hard 4 times. Once with significant damage. All in random spots on the trail.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Engineer and Sheerpin re-rolled the 10km perimeter loop tonight in anticipation of cooler temps that should firm things up overnight.
Great coverage, but "B" skis might be best until the trails get another inch or so. Can't beat the natural snow and pristine woods!

Grooming Scheduling
[ Bare ground ]
Five new inches of fluffy snow, rolled at 7 this morning. Definitely rock skis and bumpy. Use extra caution on paved trails due to the thin coverage. First screening will be Sunday evening after a good cool down.

Scheduling
Closed. As expected, it didn't last long. We will be back when/if winter returns.

Evening
Grooming
[ Bare ground ]
The outer 10k is rolled. With low expectations a Wednesday morning ski should register on your fun-o-meter. Groomer hints: expect bumps, use rock skis, and double pole along the edges of paved trails as most of the snow on those sections is gone. Ski with caution. Enjoy it while it lasts!

Morning
Grooming Scheduling
Three new inches of wet snow. Woodland Trails Park and ski trails are temporarily closed in hopes we can conserve enough snow volume to groom tonight. Stay tuned.
