2016-2017 season
Reports 11 to 20 of 23    Month: Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec

Firsthand: Freestyle

Out for a late day ski today. Things were just fine. A few pine needles here and there, but overall very good skating. A few icy spots. The track was firm, some ice in it. Conditions appear to be very good for tomorrow's Norseman.

Out at about 10 AM. Conditions for skating were very good on the green trail with firm and level skate deck and enough snow on top to provide good edging and control on downhills. The blue and black trails were only slightly to moderately softer (improved from Sunday) with churned up snow on top. Only a couple of easily avoidable areas on downhill turns had been scraped down to packed snow/ice. Tracks looked good.

Wow, great conditions. Ideal temps about 20. Even after the annual race in the morning the trails were in fine shape. Get there while the cold holds!

Excellent skiing today. First time we've skied this venue and what a joy it was! Excellent skate deck and classic tracks are consistent and sturdy. We only skated however. Hats off to the folks who groom this place, well done!

Lot of snow here. Everything was groomed and tracked. Pines covered with fresh snow. It was a great ski day! Weekend should be fantastic!

Another 11 inches of snow earlier in the week have now been rolled and groomed at Iola on top of a solid, compressed base of 6-8 inches. Great skiing today.

Great Conditions considering the 10" of new snow. Trails were fairly firm with some soft areas on the skate deck but should firm up with the cold temps. Tracks were nice and deep and firm.

Excellent conditions. Full marks to Phil for great grooming. Tracks complete and firm though occasional patches of oak leaves and pine needles. Skate lane also excellent with little loose snow/corduroy. One of my favorite trails and great workout!

Iola received an inch of fresh snow on Saturday over a hard base. It made for some ideal conditions firm and fast with plenty of control. Plus it covered up most of the debris. Phil and crew worked hard to lay some tracks down and has them on the entire system. The new section on the black loop behind the jumps is exceptional. Phil can lay out a course to ski like Arnold Palmer could design a course to golf. There were a lot of people enjoying the trails both days. Let's hope for the best in the forecast.

Classic track was freshly set on Green, Blue, and Field. With the dusting of new snow, it was excellent!
Skating reports were all good, too.
