No new grooming. Soft but good snow coverage. Skier tracked to the campground, and now, single-tracked the rest of the outer loop! Hikers had tarnished, but not ruined, Pleasure Valley. Beautiful day with few skiers. Wider skis recommended.

I skied the blue and red loops. It was a good ski, however what is groomed is definitely on top of an icy base, often visibly so. I got ok kick and glide on my Fischer twin skins. The downhills are back to being very controllable. There are a few messy spots where the groomer slipped or got stuck, but really the only sketchy place on the trail system is Pleasure Valley. The tracks going up the hill into the pine grove had giant bare spots. Because of this, I didn't bother with the rest of the orange loop. Unfortunately, on my second lap (red loop), I noticed that someone had either skated or herringboned over the tracks on every hill or small incline. This was even true in the campground, where there is ample room for skaters. The tracks aren't totally wrecked, but they are quite chewed up. Extremely disappointing.

I went twice Sunday. The first was around 11 a.m., and the conditions were quite slushy, especially in the campground. Still totally good Spring conditions (even though it's mid-February...), and I used my good skis. 100% coverage around the mound, and most of the tracks for in good shape, except for some of the corners. The downhills, while not too quick, were a bit tricky to navigate since there were so many grooves. On the downhill into the campground, it looks like a few folks had fallen and left huge dents in the snow that should be skied around.
The second ski was around 7 pm. Although the air temperature was still several degrees above the freezing, all of the previously mentioned slush had frozen into a crust on top of the snow. In the tracks this was totally fine, actually quite fun with my skin skis. But it made the downhills, especially that initial long descent into the trail system, very difficult to control. I didn't even bother heading into the campground.

Lots of skiers and lots of snow at Blue Mound today. Tracks are deep throughout except downhill where they got snowplowed out of existence. Not too icy in late afternoon. It felt like up North. Temps were warm but the snow barely felt it in many of the wooded sections facing North.

I skied the blue, orange, and red loops this evening. Very soft pole plants, but the tracks are in great condition. There's a ton of snow out there! The usual spot in the pine grove of Pleasant Valley was a bit thin, but otherwise quite deep tracks. The downhill going into the campground was starting to get slightly icy, but still very controllable.

I skied here in the early afternoon. Things were starting to get slushy, especially in sun-exposed areas, but for the most part the tracks were deep and in excellent condition. The one exception to this is in the pine grove at the Pleasant Valley (orange) loop. There is a bare spot in both sets of tracks at the top of the hill there, but it can be very easily be skied around (or in-between). The steep downhill in that loop is also a bit bumpy, but it's actually better than the last time I tried to ski it a week ago. Unfortunately, hikers were out doing their thing, leaving deep footprints throughout the trail system. They seemed to be staying off the tracks, but it's going to get really nasty on some of the downhills if it freezes over.

New grooming yesterday made excellent conditions today. Deep tracks. Rare oak leaves. It's amazing how deep the base is. Only complaint is the pleasure valley downhill after crossing the road. Bottom of hill is pretty bumpy. Otherwise a beautiful sunny day. I did not go on the trail from the campground which eventually goes along bike / snowmobile trail.

Strided all the trails late morning (except for the portion of the Blue Trail that includes the Elevator Shaft hill). Still good conditions overall since Monday's grooming. The tracks are almost all intact, and pole plants are mostly good with some soft spots where the track was set near the edges of the trail. The hills still have some loose powder, but are somewhat hard packed from all the skier traffic. The downhill on the other side of Mounds Park Road at the beginning of the Pleasure Valley loop has some rolls or humps in the trail, so proceed with caution here. There were footprints the entire Red Loop, but luckily they stayed out of the tracks.

Excellent conditions, great job of grooming. Only a couple of spots where set track was a bit soft. Should be even better after setting up in cold temps. Used my Fischer Twin Skins - good grip and good glide with no grabbing.

New 6+" of snow made for great classic skiing in skier-made tracks. No groomed trails and nothing available for skaters yet.
