Located 18 miles north of Duluth, the groomed trails are in nice primitive outdoor setting. The trails feature the "Wolfski's Ski Den" warming shack, open daily sunrise to sunset. In addition to the 21 kilometers of classical skiing, there will also be 11 kilometers groomed for skate-skiing. Trails are groomed Fridays and Mondays, and/or as needed. 2016-2017 season

Firsthand: Classic
[ B skis ]
We skied part of Bear Paw and all of Blue Ox, Nine Pine, and Lonesome Grouse. Trails not groomed. Self-made classic tracks were touch and go - had to ski on top of skate ski tracks for a good portion of the trail. There was a some ice underneath the small amount of snow we got yesterday. These trails would be great for beginners - minimal hills. Beautiful scenery!

[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Trails have not been groomed, but still well trafficked. A little slick, but mostly fine. We skied Bear Paw with my 8 year old son and he did really well on the trail considering it's only his second winter on skis. Bear Paw is a good trail for new skiers.

Grooming Scheduling
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
An update on the Boulder Lake Trail systems before the holiday season is upon us: We have not groomed any of the ski trails yet this season. We had some heavy equipment out on the trails earlier this month to take care of downed trees, exposed uproot holes, and any ground disturbance that came about due to devastating storms that hit the area this summer. It has been an uphill battle for the trail systems at Boulder but we are now prepared for any snow that comes our way (hopefully good amounts!). Although we are prepared for the snow this season, we have not put any equipment out on the trails yet. There are currently around 5-6 inches of snow pack on the trails which is not enough for us to risk equipment damage. I am hoping that Sunday will bring us the snow amounts we are looking for and we can begin rolling and creating a base. As always, the trails are open and please enjoy them as you see fit. I have seen a lot of traffic out there, but folks are still using their "rock skis" and working on the side of caution. Once we get a decent base and the skier traffic increase, we will open the warming shack as well. Hope to see you all out there and thank you so much for your patience at this time. Do a snow dance and hopefully Mother Nature will grant us our wishes!

[ Rock skis ]
Trails have not been groomed, but we were able to use our backcountry skis without any issues (except one down tree on Otter Run). Hopefully they'll get enough snow to set some tracks soon.

Afternoon
Observation
No grooming has taken place yet at Boulder. A few people have classic skied on the trails, but a few inches more snow will be needed to smooth over the tracks of maintenance equipment that were on the trail last week.

Afternoon
Observation
Stopped by West parking lot this afternoon. Boulder received about 4 inches of snow the last few days, however there was some heavy equipment out on the trails today, leaving large tracks. It appears they are working on cleaning up the trails from extensive storm damage this summer. Much clearing/logging in the nine pines loop area has occurred, and the trail will have a different feel this winter.
