Notes

The Lester-Amity trail offers 15K of varied terrain for beginner to experienced skiers through pine, aspen, and birch forests. An additional 3K circles the Lester Park Golf Course and is accessible from the main Lester-Amity Trail. The openness of the golf course offers an excellent place for beginning cross-country skiers, and several short cuts are available. There is also a 5K trail portion that is lit in the mornings and evenings.

Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Lester was re-groomed just after noon today, including the top section. Big thanks to the City sawyers, groomers and DXC volunteers who worked to clear the fallen trees. I used good skis but there are still a number of twigs/sticks on trail to navigate around.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
Hard pack skate deck heavily used. A few short sections with some pine tree needles embedded in skate deck. If using good or B skis, I would avoid the loop south of A marker as it has lots of pine tree debris still.

Wonderful skiing at Lester. Nice classic tracks. Skied partial under the lights. Magical. Lots of skiers using headlamps in addition to the lights from the light poles. Just a little bit of debris in trail. Didn't ski through the lower pine tree sections.

Night
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
Tracks are getting washed out in areas. Still groomed up to H with the only side loop groomed, the D loop. If trying to ski beyond H, it's rough for a short stretch, and then beautifully groomed for about 2K and then reverts back to deep snow with two ruts to ski in. Still pretty fun if you don't mind the uneven deep ruts. Avoid the J hill, it's the only part that has some small trees down.

The city regroomed this afternoon and the trails are resurrected. There is still a bit of debris but nothing like it was yesterday. It's still only groomed as far as H.

A little soft after groomers went through this afternoon around 2:30 pm. Debris present on outer lit loops in the form of sticks and pine needles.

Open up to H, then cut over to K. Fast skating lane and good classic track throughout, pretty fast conditions, lots of pine needles down in sections, but great conditions, thanks to the awesome grooming.

Lester is only open to H-K. There is a ton of debris on several sections and all of the trail has some on it. I would not use anything better than B skis, and be prepared for them to randomly grab on you. I had a couple of tumbles as one of my skis would randomly stop. It sure is pretty out there, though.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Good skis ]
Conditions range from good to fair. You definitely don't want to be out there with kick wax on your skis. Trails are littered with twigs and needles. The classic track is still solid in some spots, drifted over and skied in in other places. The system is only groomed as far as H.

Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
I skied classic this afternoon from the lower parking area. The tracks are still well-defined with just a few sections drifted in but, as others have noted, there was a fair amount of debris especially on the ascent from the lower area to "A". It's nearly all twigs and needles. I used my good skis but B skis might have been a better choice. The skating lane was good also. Definitely worth the trip!
