Did an easy day today resting for MWC. The lakes I think were last groomed yesterday morning, it appears. Still quite soft especially for pole planting with small baskets. All the underpasses had good snow coverage. Couple frozen slush spots. Calhoun not groomed yet for the classic marathon so turned around at the old Tin Fish. Isles was groomed one pass wide while the other lakes were wider. Typical snow on the 394 overpass and the snow along 394 on the north side was quite clean actually along the wall. Only had to take off the skis once and that was at the west side beach of Cedar where the park snowplowed to the boat launch. NE side of Cedar through the woods was good even. I think once it's groomed again and has overnight to setup it'll be really good skiing. Would be nice if walkers would stay off trails.

I was off to a great start, got around Cedar, even did the west side up on land setting great classic tracks all the way. I then got through the tunnel, thank you for shoveling and did Brownie. There is a large bare spot on the south side of the lake but the rest is great. I continued through to Isles with some, what appears to be small sections of open water on the channel to Isles, and got to the west side of Isles out around most of Mde Maka Ska when the snowmobile gave up the ghost at about Calhoun Beach club. So I was not able to do all of Isles, it is rolled. Great job shoveling under the bridges, whomever did it. Go enjoy the snow firmed up quite nicely.

Saw the lakes were groomed after the big snowfall so thought I would give them a try. It appeared they had made one pass and with all the new snow it was very soft. Hard to get any kind of rhythm. So I aborted and drove over to Wirth Park where the trails being used for World Masters were pristine on this bluebird day. I expect that with a few more grooming passes and some skier traffic the lakes will be great too.

I was able to set classic tracks on all lakes this morning. Great coverage in most places with a few bare spots to look out for but quite nice. Get and ski the Chain of Lakes.

I went from Wirth down to Cedar and back. Brownie Lake is in excellent condition. Cedar is ok, but a few spots down to bare ice and some very soft areas, probably from all the drifting. No snow whatsoever under the bridge between - be prepared to shuffle on glare ice.

All the lake sections were rolled tonight - Cedar, Isles and, in preparation for the Loppet, Calhoun. A few land sections on Cedar left to get after volunteers add snow at the landings in order to make for a better experience for groomers and skiers alike. Also need to get snow in the Brownie Tunnel and under bridges - but getting there!

I skied Brownie, Cedar, and Isles - lake trails only. The off-lake sections looked pretty rough and littered with debris. Cedar is windblown on the north end and the trail disappears buried under a few inches of soft snow between the peninsula and Hidden Beach. The south end has soft corduroy and the most even coverage on the deck. The canal to Isles has many sticks and debris, especially under the bridges. Isles is a bit thin and firm, but still soft enough to get a good edge. The fast and fun tailwind sections are a blast.

I packed all the lakes today and it looks great. Snow is not deep but it seems to have adhered to the ice well. Do not use good skis in case you ski down to the ice. Go enjoy.
