2016-2017 season

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
Track was set beautifully, ground up after the melt and perfect corduroy by afternoon. Some trails open. Fast, hard track. Advanced trails not groomed for classic at that time, but those which were groomed were speedy and perfect.

Disappointing. Icy and generally not groomed in several days. In many places on the Pincushion Mountain loop, the groomer had tilled and wiped out the classic track... this seems to have occurred several days ago, since the only sign of fresh grooming was the infield stadium. Skip this trail, and drive up the Gunflint to Bearskin, where the grooming and trails were superb. Recommending B-Skis due to ice.

I skied the East Loop, West Loop, Snowman, & Pincushion Mountain Loop. These trails all seemed to be groomed recently and were in good condition. The groomers did an excellent job getting the trails back in condition after the warm-weather followed by the cool down. I used my good skis and am just happy to ski!

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Partial, Good skis ]
We appear to be past the warmer temps and our trail base has held up well. We have groomed 2 short trails for skating, East Overlook and the stadium. We're holding out one more day to wait for colder temps at night and hopefully we will have the entire system up and groomed for the weekend. The rest of the system has good snow, but trails are rutted from skating in warm temps and classic skiing can be quite fast due to glazed tracks. We'll post an update in the next day or so.

Classic skied all the trails at Pincushion today. Snow was quite soft as temps were still >35 degrees. Going was slow on waxless skintecs, but tracks held up well and were not icy. Only once did my skis break through. Poles however always broke through the deck. Snow was not as dirty as I was expecting, but tree debris was prevalent so I suggest B skis. I was surprised that the skate deck did not look rutted as you might expect with these soft conditions. Some places you could see remnants of corduroy. But still would recommend sticking to classic to minimize damage until temps drop.

Classic skied the Pincushion Mountain Loop then zigzagged some of the lower snowman loop with some of the black, advanced trails. Went around 11am. Weather was upper 30s. The trail base was soft and at some points our skis sank. The trails were still skiable.

Beautiful track for a starlight ski. Went around North Advanced and it was a bit soft because I was almost the first one to use it. Lovely conditions!

Warmer weather and sunshine are combining with perfect snow conditions for a great weekend ski experience. All trails are tracked for classic skiing and the skate deck is in excellent shape. Come on out and enjoy our amazing trails.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
We received approximately 5-6 inches of fresh snow from this last storm. The stadium, East and West Overlook, Snowmen, Lynn's Loop and Pincushion Mountain Trail have all been compacted and then combed for skating and classic tracks have been set. North Advanced and Canyon Curves have been rolled and partially groomed. We should have all of the trails fully groomed tomorrow. We have an excellent base and overall conditions are quite good. Enjoy your ski.

Trails were very well groomed for adults and also for the local youth ski program. One problem which made it difficult for any classical skiers is that the track lies way over to the right edge of the groomed area, so people slide off to the side and ruin the track very easily, or their poles hit the deep snow next to the groomed area, or there are sometimes trees and branches to run into. Would be great if track could be a bit closer to the middle, as there is currently ample room for skating traffic.
