Trail Reports

2015-2016 season
Reports 11 to 18 of 18    Month: Mar | Jan | Dec | Nov
Monday, January 11, 2016
Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Good, ungroomed.
About 1 to 2 inches of fresh snow falling on Monday evening. The new snow is filling in holes in the trail. Not much for classic tracks, but skating is very doable. Icy patches are getting covered too. Grooming could improve the trail significantly.

[ B skis ]
Amazingly good considering how little snow we have. A few icy spots and you need to watch for sticks. Great fun!

Evening
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Good to fair, some choppy footprints.
Skate skied tonight, track is uneven but the 1" of snow helped a bit. In some areas the footprints are dangerous! I used my B + skis as the pines are a bit thin.

Evening
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Good to very good.
Trail got 1" of fresh snow this morning, which gave great glide for skating on a hard pack base. Skied after dark in the evening with headlamps. No classic tracks set, though a number of skiers made some usable grooves.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Great for skating, very firm base with top 1/2" layer soft from sun exposure.
Very firm base. Fun and fast! Great for skating but keep to the areas that are in full sun. The sun warmed up the top 1/2" and gave it just enough bite for skate skiing. No groomed classic tracks to speak of. Trails in the woods were too icy due to not getting enough sun.

Grooming
[ Bare ground ]
Conditions: Poor, hard packed icy conditions. No plans to groom until we receive more snow.
Temporarily, a one mile loop (@ the 10th tee) and a two mile loop (south of clubhouse) has been groomed at the nearby Petrifying Springs Golf Course. No classical track set. Nice skate deck on rolling terrain.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle Grooming
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Solid 4" snow base with 1/2 powder on top. Lots of footprints and branches on the trail. Drainage swale is still flowing along the edge of the woods. I attempted to groomed the trail by adding some corduroy and filling in the potholes. More snow is needed.
I found the best crust skiing was off the trail on undisturbed areas and on the nearby Petrifying Springs Golf Course.

Morning
Firsthand: Classic
[ Bare ground ]
Conditions: Heavy snow, slow and sloppy.
I Was out on trails at 3 am, found the cross country course is minimally covered. Grass fields are better but if you stop moving you take the snow with you on the bottom of your ski.
