Trail Reports

2015-2016 season
Reports 5 to 14 of 16    Month: Feb | Jan | Dec
Tuesday, February 2, 2016
Evening
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
The trails had been rolled earlier in the evening, but by the time I skied at around 9pm there was an additional ~3 inches on top. Should be fantastic conditions once it is all groomed and set up.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Deep snow over the top of a frozen, rutted base.
Last night the upper arb was refrozen, so I went to Hyland. Today several inches of white fluff made for fun conditions skating above the ice. Should groom up very well.

Grooming Scheduling
Conditions: Groomers will be our in full force late this afternoon.
We plan to roll and pack as much of the Upper and lower Arb this afternoon and evening. We will again get out early morning and try and groom up the skate deck and set a track throughout the system. Looks like we are at 4-5" of new snow as of 2pm.

Secondhand
Conditions: Icy tracks, marginal conditions.
Talked with groomer Matt: The temperature fluctuations the past few days have caused the bottom of the classic tracks to melt and refreeze into ice. Matt reports this morning that the skating is still ok in the lower arb but the tracks are icy and there are some rocks showing through the bottom of the tracks so overall the conditions are marginal.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Very good on the lower arb trails.
I skied the trail along the river again and it was great - a modest dusting of new snow that was freshly groomed and tracked this morning. Grab it while you can!

Morning
Grooming Scheduling
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Upper Arboretum freshly groomed this morning for skating. The Lower Arboretum had about 60% of the trails re-tracked and I opened up a couple of new trails.
The upper should skate pretty well. Fresh corduroy over hard packed base. We are planning on regrooming again this evening with the colder night ahead. We expect to also set a track tonight. The lower Arb has held up well and with the fresh coating of snow, we were able to get a full depth track. I would estimate about 10km of trails currently groomed with about 2 km left to be tracked.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Bare ground ]
Conditions: Decent skiing with a little dirt showing through in spots.
Enjoyed a nice ski this morning on the lower loop. Added one big scratch so I would recommend rock skis until there is more snow.

Morning
Firsthand: Classic
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Fairly good considering the amount of snow we have.
I skied the lower arb trail along the river this morning and it was nice. It has a single set of tracks set, with thin but adequate snow. I encountered no rocks. A nice outing.

Evening
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Packed with footprints.
Still very skiable tonight, though lots of prints. No bare spots and little debris. Overall pretty good conditions, and the warm day softened it up nicely. The new snow might be just the ticket.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Fair-good, adequate snow coverage.
Skied 8:30-9:30a on trail along the river, snow coverage good along whole trail, two-way classic skiing with a 4-5' distance between them. Not an exorbitant amount of snow but plenty for full coverage.
