Evening
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Grooming the evening before plus about half inch of new snow made for some really nice conditions. Base was firm and not sun-baked at the end of the day, thanks to some much colder than normal temperatures and cloudy skies. Awesome late season conditions!

Grooming

Refreshed everything on the trail system after I skied and found the conditions a bit sun-baked and icy. Given the forecast, I thought I'd repair the base. Should be great skiing!

Outstanding skate skiing conditions at Mt. Itasca. Recently groomed with Pisten Bully. Deep, firm classic track throughout. Skate deck not icy this morning, but that could change with warm up. Get out there!

Kudos to the groomers! The only spots starting to soften in the sun afternoon were near the biathlon and downhill areas. I classic skied every trail multiple times and found both the skate lane and classic tracks to still be firm through the end of the day. All of the screamer hills were very easy to control at 33 degrees.

5" new snow. Pressed for time before work, but I groomed the lower trails with one pass of the Pistenbully. Also ascended the biathlon 3.3km loop, did a loop on Bittersweet, then came down the service road. Grooming plans: I'll have to get the rest (remaining Grant in Aid trails as well as the downhill portion of the biathlon 3.3km loop) this evening, and it all needs a second pass.

Powder conditions in mid-March. The truth cannot be controversial. I skated, but the tracks were also in excellent shape. Still a soft track since the last snow, so be prepared for a strenuous workout.

Great skating on new corduroy. Others were skiing classic in the firm tracks. A few sections are not groomed but fun to ski down in the fresh powder. Enjoy the excellent skiing while it lasts!

Grooming

We groomed skate lane and set track after the two day storm left 6 - 8 inches of snow and windblown drifts. Should set up nicely for the next week of skiing and biathlon race on Saturday.
