Trail Reports

2016-2017 season
Reports 31 to 36 of 36    Month: Mar | Jan | Dec

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Most, Rock skis ]
Skied down to South Wirth from the chalet, checking out some of the golf course (Skyline / Bridge) and then the Eloise Bulter trail segments. Mostly rock ski conditions in the south, the golf course was maybe B skis but definitely some thin spots. Also surprisingly hard pack -- wish I had brought some stiffer skis. South end is pretty leafy and uneven, just needs more snow. Cold day, west wind was picking up by 3 pm.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Most, Rock skis ]
JD Rivers was in mostly good shape; Eloise Butler was enjoyable but you need to be aware that the uphills are full of twigs, rocks, and dirt. Expect some ski damage. The downhills, however, are very safe and have plenty of coverage. The Quaking Bog is a little better but still plenty of debris on the uphills. The downhills are in excellent shape. Both loops were quite fun, and everyone was enjoying themselves. I can't remember the last time I was able to ski these loops on December 11th. What a treat!

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Rock skis ]
Skied from the Anwatin school through Eloise, the bog, and the golf course. Eloise is in pretty tough shape - lots of footprints and leaves. The hills are especially rough. The bog was good as was the golf course considering the type of snow. I asked quite a few walkers to stay off the ski tracks - please do the same! Thank you Loppet Foundation for allowing us to ski immediately following this storm!

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
Rolling and grooming Eloise Butler and the Bog this morning. Fluffy and pretty, but needs a day of cold to set up before would use any good skis . . .

Observation
JD Gardens by Wirth Lake had already been rolled this morning. Looked like rock skate skis could be a fun choice. Way to go Loppet!

Morning
Firsthand: Classic
[ Rock skis ]
Skied laps in quaking bog this morning. This new snow is amazing! Never want to wager on amounts, but I don't think we will be disappointed by this storm. Used our old F classic skis (fabulous fun fishscale). Kick was perfect, glide was even better. Hit lots of rocks, but nothing that really slowed us down. Oak trees were full of snow and happy for it! Yay!
