Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails: Closed, B skis ]
A beautiful sunny day capped off a great run of April skiing. A hard freeze overnight set last nights grooming nicely and textbook spring conditions were enjoyed by a good number of folks this morning before the trails closed in the afternoon. Jonell and I classic skied on JibFly mid morning timing the transition from fast to slow and conditions were much better than expected. Thanks everyone that came out this past week. Until the flakes fly again.....Just Ski.

Firsthand: Freestyle Grooming
[ Trails Open: Partial, B skis ]
Spring conditions. Morning low 13 degrees, high of 35 degrees. Sunshine, light winds: Comments: Groomed at sunrise conditioning the deck. With cooler than forecasted temperatures took a little bit longer to soften up, especially the track which was not reset. Skate skied from 11am to noon hitting the end of the the sweet spot. Very nice skiing and fun to bump into other skiers. Although it was cooler today than forecasted, the sun did its thing detonating the base. However, there still was enough coverage to sneak an evening groom setting a track on JibFly and compressing the skate deck and setting structure on the late season loop. No track set. Trails will be open until noon. Best skiing predicted to be 9am to noon.

Thanks to Jay and his team, the 4k groomed loop remains in good condition with good snow coverage and no significant thinning noted (yet). Waxless skis worked well again today. Maplelag is a great spot to still sneak in an few extra ski days as winter wraps up.

Firsthand: Classic Grooming
[ Trails Open: Partial, B skis ]
Another great day of April skiing! Grooming this morning was a bit tricky with the very damp snow that froze down hard last night thanks to temps in the low 20's. A few extra passes and the deck and new track were good to go. Nice to see all the folks out today, thanks for skiing in the morning. Snow fell most of the day, accumulation less than an inch. High temperatures were in the mid 30's and thick cloud cover kept melting to a minimum. Early evening Jonell and I skied a lap on the late season lap and was just starting to cool down and firm up again, very nice skiing. Grooming plans: Will be back out in the morning grooming the 4km late season loop, resetting the track and renovating the skate lane. With the sun forecasted to make a return tomorrow, the snow could deteriorate fast and best to ski in the morning, sweet spot 9:30-11:30am is my best guess.

Morning
Firsthand: Classic
[ Good skis ]
With nearly a foot of fresh, moisture-loaded snow, the trail was well-covered and the trees heavily flocked. Both waxless skis and zero skis worked equally well for kick. Maplelag has groomed a healthy loop of trail for skiers, including SkatersWaltz and Sukkerbusk. There is a classic track set and the skate deck is freshly rolled. Great day to be out!

Evening
Firsthand: Classic Grooming
[ Trails Open: Partial, B skis ]
Spring conditions, 12-14" new snow past 36 hours.4km loop groomed skate and classic 9km groomed for fat bike. Comments: Back out grooming this morning, roll packing the additional 3" of new snow on top of the evening snow and grooming. Switched to the 9' Ginzu setting a track on once side and combing out the skate lane. After a nice morning of skiing, temp climbed to the upper 30's in the afternoon making for softer and slower conditions. I went out early evening as it was glazing down again and skiing was nice despite slightly tricky conditions. Just awesome to be in the woods with the late day, mild temps and sounds of spring. Grooming plans: Held off on grooming this evening as the base was still soft. Plan to be out in the morning to touch up the skate lane and reset the track.

Winter Wonderland! 5-6" new snow past 24 hours as of 2pm. 4km roll packed, to a compacted base of 2-3". Soft sticky snow, 30 degrees. Calm wind. Comments: Last night groomed on the early/late season loop which measures just over 4km utilizing the east side segments of Sukkerbusk and Skaters Waltz and also Eira Bikwadinaa hill. This morning skied on the loop and conditions were much better than expected. Waxing for the warmer snow definitely helped. After skiing snow really started coming down. Back out grooming making 4 passes on this same loop. Nice to see a few skiers out! Grooming plans: Will be back out this afternoon and early evening. Will try to set a track on the side of this loop if conditions allow. We look to have freezing nights for awhile and plan to be open for late season skiing until Sunday morning. Best to get out before noon.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Both Grooming
[ Trails: Closed, Rock skis ]
A couple inches of snow fell early this morning. Groomed a 4km loop. After it froze down, skied one lap skate then one lap no track classic with Jonell. Although there were some really nice sections, didn't feel it was safe enough skiing to open to the public. It's always fun to have bonus grooming and skiing this late in the year.

Grooming Scheduling
[ Trails: Closed, Rock skis ]
We wrapped up a fun few days of late season skiing getting the most of the storm over the weekend. Snuck in one more grooming run yesterday afternoon but missed the timing a little. Best skiing today was on the non groomed trails where a few diehards enjoyed the crust segments. Trails are now closed. We will continue to monitor weather forecasts and ready to groom any late season snowstorm if conditions are right. Thanks everyone who came out the past few days....Just Ski.

A pretty fantastic day on the trails. Wow. Morning low dipped to 3 degrees setting up last nights grooming nicely. Groomed on Skaters Waltz in the morning cleaning up the edges. After grooming met up with a season pass holder to ski the classic trails. Just a phenomenal mid March day with cold dry snow. The sun was starting to do its thing after the noon hour but still very skiable and temperature never got above 30. Lots of happy skiers out today and one of the busiest March days ever. The sun did deteriorate the tracks early afternoon before clouds moving in saving the set for late afternoon skiers. The skate deck held out well and an evening groom cleaned up as much as possible. We will have the trails open in the morning, best bet would be skating on skaters waltz. Lots of open spots in the tracks and warm temps tomorrow with make skiing pretty tough after noon. Very grateful for a few extra bonus days!
