Grooming
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Spring conditions. Still very good coverage on trails.
Despite temps near 50 today with beautiful sunshine, the trails held out great and we had a busy day of skiing. No wind and low dew points keeping the serious melting at bay. Crust cruising conditions in the morning including some skiers ripping around on the lake. Softened up mid morning for sweet spot skiing until early afternoon. Check of a few trails late afternoon found coverage holding out great. Looks to cool down tonight and should harden up the base again making for fast conditions unless we catch a little new snow. Bottom line there is good coverage and we can ski.

Grooming
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Light dusting of new snow on top of solid frozen granulated base. Very good to excellent coverage. No thin areas. Southern exposed areas glazed.
We had a gorgeous day for the Perham Middle School Exploratory group out for a afternoon of skiing, sledding and skating. Great to see so many first time skiers! Reports from the trail have been good to very good, both for skate and classic.. The new snow taking off the edge providing nice skiing this week. Another cooler day tomorrow than looks like a return to spring conditions. We have a solid base which should provide some nice spring skiing this weekend.

Grooming Scheduling
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Frozen granulated base. Firm, mostly well defined tracks. Hard base skate deck. Very light dusting of new snow on top. Good to excellent reports.
We survived the warm weather on Friday as it slowly cooled down by early early Saturday morning to groom. The snow underneath the hard crust was very wet and tricky to mix in with the top crust but multiple passes resulted in mostly well defined tracks and a nice skate surface on Skaters Waltz. With the majority of skiers this past weekend first timers and beginners, we focused on the inner trail system to have the best and most safe skiing as possible. Outer trails including North Loup and Twin Lakes also groomed with new tracks set and have now set up hard. With the light dusting on Sunday morning, we refrained from grooming and skiing reports were good. We will be grooming during the week to maintain safe and best conditions possible on the main used trails. We will continue grooming select trails until mid April if conditions allow even though we close for lodging on March 13th.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic Grooming Scheduling
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Spring conditions! Good coverage. Light drizzle Friday morning, clearing with bright intense February sunshine, low 40's late afternoon.
No grooming this morning as it didn't freeze down enough last night but the snow held out great and the rain stayed south of us this morning. A ski around noon found a light glazing on most of the trails, and firm deck, especially trails that were groomed most recent (Wednesday evening) Great skate skiing on Skaters Waltz hitting the sweet spot. Folks out on the trail this afternoon enjoying the spring conditions and intense bright sunshine. We will be out grooming in the morning if it freezes down enough tonight, renovating select trails and cutting new tracks and brushing out the skate lanes.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Classic skied today choosing a mix of random trails, but mostly Sukkerbusk, Twin Lakes and Sap Run. Conditions were about as good as it can get. My wax choice was a little cold for the temps, but with such clean tracks doubling poling and long glides were the reward for some added work on the climbs. Skaters Walz looked really smooth and fast, making a trip back tomorrow a necessity to check out both Skaters and N Loup.
The next few days have some higher than normal temps in the forecast, I wouldn't let that prediction dictate to not ski. There's an adequate hard packed base under the trails, with enough almost fresh snow to do some mixing if need be, which can produce the best of the year skiing. Perfect texture with fast snow along with Jay's zest for the art of grooming can make your skis happy by taking them gliding.

Firsthand: Classic Grooming
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Excellent skiing this week. Conditions couldn't be much better. A classic ski at dusk found dry snow with firm tracks throughout, some trails a bit more soft and powdery. There has been no melting or any transformation of the 8-10" of snow that has fallen the last 8 days. Grooming Tuesday morning on 28km of trail with new tracks set on select trails and skaters waltz and suicide hill combed/renovated. Grooming planned Wednesday morning on select classic trails. After Wednesday morning grooming, we will be leaving the softer snow conditions in order to better manage the snow after any warm or wet weather on Thursday or Friday morning.
Looks to be warmer for a few days near the end of the week but we are confident we will have good skiing on through the weekend. Spring like conditions anticipated. There is a solid base of snow and plenty of snow to work with to groom, condition and have nice skiing. Once we have a warm day, following days being warm are favorable to insure optimum spring conditions. We have experience grooming in all types of conditions and constantly monitor the weather to be ready to groom at the critical times to have the best conditions possible. We are not worried about the weather but looking forward to continued great skiing! Just ski!

Grooming
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Couple inches of fresh snow today groomed on most of the trail system. Excellent conditions. 18" snowpack, 7-8" base.
We woke up to an inch or so and snow continued on most of the day. We groomed all day, grooming over 60km. Skate lanes hit again at dusk, should be super in the morning. Tracks set up quickly, polished nicely thanks to the skier traffic. Skiing is fantastic.

Morning
Firsthand: Classic
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Excellent! Well groomed for classic, and skate. Classic was perfect and easy to wax with the cold temps. Skate had a great base but was a little slow.
Maplelag does not disappoint, and always has the best conditions around. It was phenomenal today, starting with temps around -6, and finishing near 10 degrees. We spent the day skiing, had a great lunch, and enjoyed the hot tub before heading out.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic Grooming
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Spectacular. 54km tracked classic, 15km groomed skate.
Sun came out today and even though the air temp was colder than yesterday, the brilliant sunshine was heartening and it felt warmer. Gorgeous day of skiing. Morning grooming on select classic trails capped off a 200km week of grooming. Skied on the Bootleg extension for the first time this year before lunch clearing some twigs etc. and found the hidden gem on the Maplelag trail system at its finest. Protected from the wind and holding a coating of snow plastering. Skate trails a bit slow but a solid and firm deck. Touch up grooming planned throughout the Presidents weekend and groomers ready to groom in any new snow. Enjoy!
