[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Set up perfect and fast.
Skied classic today in nice set up tracks and firm apron. Despite the warmer temps the past few days the trails have been basically unaffected. Skate deck looked amazing but didn't have time for both. Can't wait to get back!

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Excellent coverage.
On Saturday at Maplelag the trails I skied were in fabulous shape. In skiing the trails, you would never guess the temps in the region had been in the 30's last week with rain. There was a fresh track on the North Loup. Roy's Run had excellent coverage and a good track. Twin Lakes was in great shape, as was Jib Fly, Wavy Gravy, and Rootin Tootin. As anyone who has skied Maplelag knows, the trails are impeccably maintained. If you are looking for great ski conditions, check out Maplelag.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic Grooming Scheduling
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Good to excellent on springlike conditions. 39km fresh groomed Saturday morning, 65km groomed past 3 days. Very good to excellent coverage. Snow depth 6-14", compacted base 4-6".
As a skier that has groomed for over 25 years, today was about as good as it gets for both grooming and skiing. Moonset to sunrise grooming under clear skies, ideal temps and good gap from dew point to air temp with a blend of snow types made for ideal grooming scenario. A check of the trails early afternoon found the skate deck extremely fun with just the right amount of fresh tilling on solid deck. The new tracks set on the double track were great skiing in the morning than the track on the opposite side skied well in the afternoon when it warmed up a bit. Since our snow transformed on early Thursday morning, there were no sticking issues and the melting point was higher today, also the lower dew point helped. Bottom line fantastic spring like skiing with brilliant sunshine most of the day. We will be back out in the morning touching up the skate deck and resetting select tracks.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic Grooming
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Frozen and loose granulated. 20km new track set and skate trail groomed past 24 hours. Good to excellent conditions. All other trails we have been grooming this year groomed past 4 days.
Turned out to be a great day on the trails! The cold temps today made for faster skiing after yesterday's warm up but the trails groomed today (Roy's Run, Sukkerbusk, Island Lake and Wavy Gravy) were very nice skiing. Good reports from the other trails. Looks to warm up on the weekend but that will soften the snow and slow things down. The snow has transformed so the stickiness factor is pretty much eliminated. The coverage is good, should be a nice weekend of skiing! We will be grooming if weather allows only to improve the current conditions.

Evening
Firsthand: Freestyle Grooming
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: 1" new snow, machine groomed with new full depth track pressed on 18km today. Very good to excellent, about as good as it gets.
Just came in from skiing trails groomed today. Tracks were fast, not completely set up yet from the higher dew points but very nice skiing. We will be back out in the morning grooming the courses for the Section course next week and a few other classic trails. We are able to run the renovators a bit deeper mixing four different snow types. Remainder of trails recently groomed with dusting of snow on top. North Loup remains double tracked.

The new snow was groomed in on most of the trails today. We will be back out grooming tomorrow touching up trails before the weekend and HS race on Friday. At ski at dusk found silky like snow that skied just super.

Grooming
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Very good to excellent, mid winter. 70km open, 55km groomed.
Despite the cooler temps over the long MLK weekend the trails were busy as ever with skiers from Holy Family, Benilde St Margaret and the North Star Ski Touring Club along with a core MLK group that has seasoned nicely from traditionally cold MLK weekend. Good to see kids bushwhack skiing on Bullhead lake trail building some off groomed skills this morning and nice job to all skiers going out in the frosty temps including a reading of -30F Sunday morning. New tracks set on select trails tomorrow morning.
