Frog town is now open...at least the first half of it. Great conditions considering how little natural snow we've had. Kudos to the team at Hyland for all their hard work! There were a lot of people out for a Tuesday morning. Some spots are a bit sugary, but the vast majority, especially newly open areas are in great shape.

With some late snow and relatively warm overnight temps, the Star and Willow loops were OK as of 6:45 am. A lot less sugar, but a bit soft. Even so, it was a pretty good skate deck. Frog Town was fantastic, so glad it opened today. The skate deck on Frog Town was firm and the snow was in fabulous condition - no sugar whatsoever on the Frog Town uphills. Beautiful morning for a ski, thank you Hyland groomers and staff!

Frog Town is now open, thank you Hyland grooming crew! Sections of trail were already turning sugary by 6:45 this morning, particularly on the Star Loop. Hopefully cold weather will help solidify the skate deck a bit (Snow would be welcome too). Classic tracks appeared to be in great shape.

Huzzah, Frog Town is open this morning. Great work Hyland team. Boo, mother nature bypassing us for snow and not cooling off enough last night. Most of the tracks were good but squishy in areas. Corners on the hills for the tracks may won't last long as the edges were soft.

With a 1:10 pm start following the late morning snow, things were kind of slow. It was no longer the sugar slowing things down but rather the new snow. Although it felt "greasy", it really cut into my glide particularly on the Willow downhill where I had to start skating mid hill. This was true regardless of whether I used my colder or warmer waxed skis. On the plus side, without the deeper sugar I was actually able to skate all the way to the top of the NW climb on Star and nearly made it to the top on the following west-east climb. Groomers have continued to work on the bypass of Star's west-east climb next to the chalet parking lot so it could be ready to ski soon. It was 29 degrees with a thick overcast.

Still just 1 mile open, but the deck feels great! The snow-guns are all blowing, and the grooming crew is hard at work. Get out there and enjoy these great conditions before it gets torn up.

Lots of sugar snow, but manageable and conditions were were much better than on Friday night. There are two thin spots in the base to keep an eye out for on the Star loop since the ground is starting to poke through. Where present, the classic tracks appeared to be in better shape than the skate deck. Snow guns were running and the Frog Town loop appears to be coming together nicely.

What a wonderful morning for a ski. Snow firmed up overnight giving a nice classic track. Skate deck looked great as well. Lots of skiers at 7am. Getting some sugar on the hills. Looks like they are prepping Frog for an opening soon.

[ Trails Open: Partial, Bare ground ]
Hope springs eternal but Star and Willow remain the only trails open. Desk staff said Frogtown may open next week. More tangible, it is apparent the large mound of snow next to the Chalet parking lot is starting to be spread by the groomers so the bypass of Star's west-east climb by the trail segment next to the parking lot may be open soon. As far as the existing trail conditions, with the warmer weather - 31F according to Google at my 12:00 noon start - the deeper sugar, occasionally wet, was back. However, the snow guns were not running on the Willow and Star downhills so no new artificial snow to slow you down. After two laps, I switched from my warmer-yellow-waxed skis to my colder-salmon-waxed skis. I thought the later ran a little bit faster but my tracking stats did not bear that out. In addition to the bare spot on the left of the first Star climb, another bare spot is starting to appear on the inside of the first corner of Star where it joins the straight-away leading to Willow.

The current trail is the same one mile loop. Frog Town is not open. Park staff said Frog Town could be open next week. Trail was a bit soft on the hills, but lots of people enjoying the snow. Think cold temps!
