Notes

With trails from beginners to expert and a very modern, heated trail center, Wild River State Park is one of the hidden gems for cross-country skiing in eastern Minnesota. The Aspen Knob loop is extremely challenging.

I skied all the way north from the trail center to Trillium trail, then returned on the Old Logging Road / Mitigwaki loop route. Trails are perfectly groomed, both skate and classic decks are firm and crisp. 20°, I waxed blue/green, was just right. Enjoy!

A beautiful day for skiing, and great conditions. I skied the Deer Creek Loop. The small amount of new snow from midweek was worked into the tracks. Tracks were well formed and not icy, with isolated spots where the track edge was missing. I saw 22 swans as I went around the loop, and a namesake deer as well. Nice to see some sun!

Kudos to the groomer the ski trails at Wild River were absolutely pristine! Skied from about 10:30 am to 1 pm today. No icy spots whatsoever, very little debris, excellent coverage. Honestly haven't seen these great of conditions in years. Love all the wildlife including the swans and deer. Enjoy!

Wild River was great today, the freezing drizzle/ice did not reach there. All trails that I saw were recently groomed. Very few leaves and sticks. Quite the enjoyable time, and not crowded. Plenty of open water on the St. Croix.

Another beautiful day for skiing. Going north on the Walter F. Mondale River Trail led to 40+ swans at the southern tip of the Nevers island. Very good snow coverage. The Old Logging Trail provided very nice tracks. You could tell though that there had been plenty of use throughout the day.

The trails were freshly groomed and in great conditions all over, as I did the full outer loops. They were clean of leaves and sticks, so could bring your good skis. Since it hasn't been windy, no overblown section. It was a lot more busier than usual.

Really nice skiing at Wild River. I skied portions of the Mitigwaki Loop, the River Access Road, and the Walter F. Mondale River Trail south from the boat landing. Mostly the tracks were very good, with just a few places where the tracks were a little soft or slightly uneven. Absolutely beautiful winter woods. I saw about 10 swans close to shore south of the landing. Best skiing I've had this winter.

I skied mainly on the Mitigwaki Loop (bike trail side) and River Access Road which was a firm and fast ride downhill. Trails were a bit stiff with the temperature contrast from Thursday to Friday, despite being freshly groomed. Overall fair to good, with the best skiing on the bike trail portion. Despite having the full width of the road, someone walked right in the ski track and combed portion of the River Access Road, making a fast hill that much more challenging.

Skied Amador Prairie to Nevers Dam trail to Walter Mondale river trail to Amik's pond to Mitigwaki. Great conditions. Track was clean of debris. Little soft with temperature about 38. Had the trail to ourselves. Traveled about 4.6 miles. Best ski of the season. Not many people out.
