Trail Reports

2015-2016 season
Reports 11 to 16 of 16    Month: Feb | Jan | Dec
Sunday, January 10, 2016
Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Bare ground ]
Conditions: Pretty good, not recently groomed, faster than you would think.
Not bad - terrific compared to last year! Not groomed since Friday or so? Tracks have been set, but are somewhat shallow - not bad considering the amount of snow. Ski rental trailer not open. Skied Grimm only Saturday and Sunday. First big uphill off of the lake has some rocks that can almost be avoided with strategic ski placement and the hill behind the Grimm farm has exposed rocks near the tracked side. Used the good skis both days and didn't wreck them - but wouldn't advise it.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Skied the King and Gromm loops this morning. Both were just packed and tracked this morning. I was pretty much the first one through and the track was soft and slow. It should improve with colder temps. Occasional bare spots (<5% of trail).

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Bare ground ]
Conditions: Good to fair. Groomed for skaters. Hardly any classic tracks except those laid by skiers like me :-).
Gorgeous bright sunny day. Parking lot full. Lots of brush clearing going on. Bulldozer in the middle of clearing. Lots of sticks and sawdust and brush at various points along trail Rock skis only!

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Fair. Groomed, but still very soft and bumpy. A few dirty spots.
I skied Grimm and Sky Tuesday afternoon. The trails weren't bad, but could certainly use more snow and grooming. I'm just glad Carver is open!

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Bare ground ]
Conditions: Fair but soft bas. Skied Grimm trail starting at 12:20 pm. The groomers were returning from King trail so it is likely the rest of the park was groomed. Though I skied on classic skis, the groomers had not laid tracks for classic. The base was very soft with small rocks and sticks showing in many spots, especially on the uphills. Unfortunately, due to such a marginal base one pass through by a few skiers and this trail is history until the next snowfall.
Check with Three Rivers Park District website to be sure Carver is listed as open before going there.
