Notes

Most trails ramble through hardwood forest along any of several routes across all difficulty levels. Camel Back provides some fun hills, but Oak Run is particularly exciting. Morgan Lane offers beautiful view of a pond from a birch-lined ridge while effortlessly gliding back to the trailhead. Infrequently groomed.

Groomers were out in the past 24 hours and groomed about 70% of the Sunfish trails. Groomed for both skate and classic. Sunfish is always a gem when we have a thaw since it is all in the woods and shaded. Always expect some walkers at Sunfish, though. Get yourself down the hill from the parking lot and you will find the groomed trails. Thank you to the groomers and Lake Elmo!

Freshly groomed, track set on most of the trail, oddly missing in others. Hikers and dog walkers out en masse but mostly managing to not trample on the track. Classic skiing was great, with the hikers and soft snow I wouldn't bother trying to skate.

My husband and I skate skied Sunfish Lake Park yesterday. It was actually really nice! The coverage was surprisingly good, there were only a few leaves and sticks to avoid. The fresh layer of powder on top of the groomed snow was really fast too. The only negative was that some of the spots going uphill were a little too narrow for a full skate stride, but it was well worth the trip out.
