Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
Baker was rock ski heaven this morning. Good if thin coverage with just a few downhills that demanded care. I don't think it was groomed today, but it didn't need it. Tracks looked good but unused. It's hard to believe I skied alone for two hours.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Most, Rock skis ]
I had a great early winter ski at Baker this morning. I skied Island, Timber, and Prairie. There are a few large rocks, especially on Island and the connection between Island and Timber. Avoidable, but be careful, especially for those of us still getting back into the swing of things this week. Otherwise, lots of grass poking through (attached picture is representative), but it was all very skiable and pleasant. I was encouraged by the official "fair" rating but I would say Baker is poor. All that said, I had the trails basically to myself and it was a beautiful morning!

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Great early season skiing. Beautiful day ungilating trails and a few bare spots. Easy to skip over it. Groomers did fresh tracks but lots of leaves and sink into soft snow when in the track. It's a treat to ski fresh snow the early.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle Secondhand
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Skied the outer loop at Baker in the late afternoon. Uneven and a little soft with some debris. Old school early season conditions. Should improve with more grooming. Don't bring your best skis. Still, it was a blast! Well worth the drive and effort to avoid the crowds on a 1.5k track. Note that the chalet is closed as per the Three Rivers website.
