Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Fair to good for skate on Silver and Bronze loops, fair for Gold and WC.
The Silver and Bronze loops were groomed after the last snow and are generally in good shspe. There is some debries and dirt in places--enough that you might want your B skis. The Gold and WC loops have not been recently groomed and have a layer of fallen snow on top of the deck. The skate deck is firm and holding up pretty well on the whole system. A few places are starting to get rutted or washboarded, making this already challenging system even more technical. Overall, it was a joy to ski today and I give my complements to the groomers for doing such a good job with so little snow.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ B skis ]
For the amount of snow we have, the trails are in mostly good condition and certainly skiable. There are just a few spots with needles and the ground almost shows through on one of the inner hills (pine trees), but snow was shoveled on the trail in most places providing good coverage on the majority of the skate deck. The classic trails looked ok in most spots with typical leaves sparsely encountered in the wooded areas (as can only be expected), but I did not actually use the classic tracks. If you don't expect East Coast, newly fallen snow conditions (as is the case in the heavily snowed on cities this past weekend), you should enjoy Battle Creek. I might suggest 'B' skis until we get more snow coverage. Thanks to all who work(ed) to keep this trail in the condition it is.

Morning
Grooming Scheduling
Bronze (lighted), Gold, ball field and Ski Games (across the road) skating trails redone this morning. Conditions pretty good, just a few bare spots. A crew is scheduled for this afternoon to work on shoveling and improving the Silver trail.

Grooming Scheduling
[ B skis ]
Conditions: About an inch of new snow mixed in with the hardpack. Skate conditions good to very good, classic fair to good as previous tracks were left alone for skiers to pack in the new snow.
This morning we groomed all trails (Gold, W.C., Silver and Bronze) with the exception of the ski games side. New snow mixed in very well with the existing base in the skate lanes however not enough snow to take out the old tracks and reset new ones. The ball field has new skate lanes and new classic double tracks were set as there is more snow in this area. Four HS teams will be practicing Wednesday afternoon between 3:00-7:00pm. There is a HS meet with 120 skiers under the lights 5:30-7:30 pm Thursday and an all day conference pursuit race Friday morning beginning at 9:00am.

Evening
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Decent but getting slick and difficult to edge.
During my evening workout I found the trail to be quite hard packed and more difficult to get an edge than my previous visit last week. The long downhill out of the woods is now very fast and most corners have become challenging to step around. Also the lights at the top of the long climb in the woods are out, making it difficult to see the contours for skating. Tracks appeared to have a fair amount of dirt and debris, especially in the woods.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Nice skate deck - very firm.
The groomers did a great job on Sunday scratching the very firm skate deck and even shoveling the brown areas on the trail. Way to go awesome groomers! A skis if you are very careful, B skis are your best option with the thin base. Classic tracks are not so great, it's just too thin.

Skating lane on all trails redone and slightly improved. Skating conditions very good. Still a decent classic track. A lot more bare spots on the Ski Games trails across the road.

Grooming
[ B skis ]
The Soccer field (north of the parking lot), was packed, groomed, and double classic tracks were set this morning. The snow is soft now but should setup nicely as the day progresses. This should be a great place to work on technique or just have fun on a nice flat surface.

Very very good grooming for skate - way to help our low snow season. Great work to all staff!

Grooming
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Skating good, classic fair.
Entire system was groomed this morning with the exception of the Gold and World Cup specific segments. New tracks were set on the Ski Games segment and are full depth. There are scattered bare spots in the bottom of these tracks. The classic tracks on the remainder of the system were set on Saturday morning and not reset today. The old tracks are approximately 1/2 normal depth but appeared to be in good shape with little or no bare spots. The skating deck is firm with nice corduroy. The trails are a little bumpy due to the low snow cover but otherwise in good condition.
