Trail Reports

2015-2016 season
Reports 30 to 34 of 34    Month: Feb | Jan | Dec | Nov
Wednesday, December 30, 2015
Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Thin but nearly complete coverage.
Many thanks to the grooming team for preparing the Battle Creek trails so quickly. Thin coverage but very few exposed spots. Be careful on some of the uphills and spots under pine trees where your skis are more likely to cut through the thin coverage and run aground. Downhills were in nice shape. B skis recommended.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Trails were superbly rolled yesterday (Thanks Bill Stuber and all volunteers!). The base and snow is soft on much of the trail as is expected with a new snowfall and temperature range. A very small number of the tallest weeds sparsely showed in a spot or two, but it didn't impact skiing at all and is nice to be on the new snow and skiing Battle Creek. Should be great skiing for the EU races this weekend. Keep up the great work groomers, rollers and/or volunteers!

Grooming
[ Bare ground ]
All Winthrop Street trailhead trails (including Ski Games trail across the road) rolled and packed. Snow too thin to set a classic track, but otherwise pretty skiable. Rock skis recommended.

Evening
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Rolled and ready for grooming, places were skied in.
Tuesday night the lighted trail (perhaps all) had been rolled and looked primed for grooming. Seems to be on the high end of snow for the metro.

Afternoon
Observation
Conditions: Not yet ready for skiing.
My son and I pole-hiked the full Battle Creek loops 3pm Friday, 28 degree temp. There's snow everywhere, but also ice and dirt and leaves everywhere too. The good news is that the ground is frozen, the terrain is level, and a good snowfall might well bring it to skiiable condition.
