The freeze and thaw cycle of the last few days has been hard on the trails. It's getting thin in the sun and rock-hard in the woods due to frozen ruts. Classic tracks are so-so to poor. Maybe grooming can help but we'll probably need more snow to freshen them up. Pretty hard to get an edge for skating, but just soft enough for it to not be dangerous. I'd only recommend going if you don't mind hard/icy conditions.

Grooming [ Trails Open: All, ]

Silver trail was groomed after lights out and snow temps went down below freezing. Minimal damage was down by warm temps the last two days. Skating area has some easily avoidable small bare spots but is very good otherwise. There is a high school meet scheduled for 2:00 pm Thursday. The classic tracks vary from pretty good to pretty poor. Mostly still skiable but expect to step out to avoid bare spots. The Gold, World Cup, and Ski Games trails have not been groomed since Monday but appear to be in similar condition but with marks made by skiers the last two days.

Silver trail was groomed and double tracks were set earlier this morning. Gold and Ski Games trails were just groomed with classic tracks set. The skate deck is getting smoother after each grooming. There is plenty of snow on Ski Games side. The tracks do bottom out occasionally but easily stepped around. World Cup trail has been rolled and is skied in.

Bronze and easy loops groomed this afternoon with classic tracks set. Skate surface very good with only a couple of easily avoidable ski damagers observed. Classic track is variable. Some excellent, some not perfectly formed with crumbly sides and many spots with grass and or dirt showing. Classic skiers should watch where they step but should be able to enjoy the trails. More segments will be groomed tomorrow.

Battle Creek was rolled on Saturday morning. As of noon conditions were still very soft. Coverage was good. But base was thin and there were a few thin spots on some of the steepest climbs. I hit at least one rock on the gold course. Should improve once the base is compacted and groomed more. Ski games side was also good except for areas that people had walked on.

Grooming Scheduling [ Trails Open: All, ]

All trails were rolled this morning. New snow is very light and fluffy but the base underneath was very firm as of yesterday. Our plan is to groom tomorrow morning including an attempt at setting a shallow track.

Pretty nice this morning. Trail is just rolled but seems to have good coverage. I classic skied without tracks set but found that the soft snow to ski well. There have been skaters out, I could see where they dug into the soft snow and hit ground. As the snow sets up this should not be a big problem.
