Trail Reports

2015-2016 season
Reports 78 to 87 of 87    Month: Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec | Nov

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Good considering the snow accumulation but lots of footprints.
Skied south Wirth today. Eloise was great with the exception of a few spots with grass poking through on the uphills. I was disappointed by the amount of footprints in the Quaking Bog. The trails were in fantastic shape otherwise and the trees looked so beautiful with the fresh snow. I wish Theodore Wirth would invest in some "No Walking on Ski Trail" signs because it's a shame to have such a great system, only for the trails to be damaged with footprints.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle Secondhand
[ B skis ]
Pretty good for the amount of snow we have and felt the groomers have done a good job not digging deep. More firm than yesterday. Skied from 1:30-3:00 and lots of skiers had already been out. Stayed on Skyline, tornado alley, and JD gardens. You'll want to keep an eye out for thin spots but avoidable. Didn't go south of Wirth lake but heard the climbs were soft. Saw snow guns blowing on the man made loop. Probably 6-7" of snow off the trail.

Grooming
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Trails fair, and freshly packed.
All trails were packed this morning. There are some thins areas in the woods and the uphill sections. Unfortunately there has been a lot of foot traffic on the trails, fat tire bikes, and a car that drove through the trails on the Sky Line trail. Conditions are still very skiable and we will continue to manage them as long as they dont begin to get to thin. Just a reminder to please stay off of the snow making loop.

Evening
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Bare ground ]
Skied the Eloise Butler and Bog portions Tuesday evening and surprisingly good! A little bumpy, but no bare spots and little debris. Would still recommend rock skis, but for as little snow we've had I'd say very good conditions. Thanks groomers!

Grooming
[ B skis ]
Theodore Wirth has packed and rolled for skate skiing all trails starting at the main chalet leading to Brownie lake with the exception of the manmade loop. We will continue making snow on the manmade loop with hopes of getting 1K to 1.5K open soon.

Grooming
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Fair condition.
The trails at Wirth were all packed with a corduroy this morning. The Skyline trail, Tornado Alley, Gardens, Eloise Butler, and Bog trails are open for skiing. Unfortunaltey there is not enough snow yet to set a classic track. The Lakes Trail will be open tomorrow. The Snowmaking Loop is still closed. Please stay away from the snowmaking trail and equipment. We will have updates on when sections of that trail will open.

Grooming Scheduling
Conditions: Trails are closed.
We were able to start making some progress with snowmaking at Wirth with the last bit of cold weather. The stadium and catwalk are filled in but we do not yet have enough snow made to connect any trails for a loop. We are making snow when temps allow and will continue to do so. Thank you for your patience.

Observation
At least two snowguns were fired up at Wirth on Thursday. One near the stadium, the other in the bowl.

Morning
Grooming Scheduling
Conditions: Poor with little snow.
We will continue to monitor weather conditions at Wirth for snowmaking and make it while conditions are good. All trails are closed until better conditions are available. Please do not come to the golf course and attempt to ski, it will damage the turf. We will keep everyone updated on when trails are open.

Theodore Wirth snow area is fully staffed and ready to make snow when conditions are favorable. Currently the weather is not looking very consistent which is challenging at Wirth since we need temps in the mid to low 20's in order to make snow at this facility. Unlike other facilities in the area we do not have a cold source of water to make snow with which makes it difficult in marginal temps. We will be making efforts anytime we have an extended period of cold temps. We thank you for your patience.
