Got out on the made-snow loop around 2:45. The trail was a bit icy in the shade, and a little slushy in the sun. I was waxed with blue, and it seemed to work the balance relatively well, though wasn't perfect for either. As the sun started setting, the trail got a little icier, but was still very easy to manage. None of the turns were icy from snow-plowers. The snowmaking team built such a deep deck that I have confidence in it holding up. Thanks for waiting to open the trails until they were truly ready to go!

Perfection at Wirth this morning on the snowmaking trail. I was happy to see the trail extended again all the way to Twin Lake! The tracks and the skate deck were in excellent shape with fresh grooming. There were some leaves in the tracks in the oak tree areas. I've been skiing at Wirth for over 40 years, and I really think it's one of the premier ski areas in the metro!

World-class conditions on the man-made loop this morning, for both skate and classic, with temps just a few degrees below freezing. Wirth already has the largest man-made snow loop in the Twin Cities, and based on the snow piles everywhere I expect it to be getting even bigger in the near future...

Classic skied the snowmaking loops around late morning. Old Powergrip Purple actually worked pretty well as temperatures were right around freezing. Grooming was great, in many places two sets of classical tracks and still plenty of room for skating. So enjoyable with warmer weather. With their cooling tower, the Loppet was still running their snowmaking guns out on the north end of the golf course. Groomers were out working over the big piles of snow on the tubing hill.

Perfect conditions on the 5K manmade loop. Everything about this place is outstanding. Trail flows so well. With the temps above freezing the skate deck was holding up well. Set tracks were nice and firm.

We opened the remaining portion of our 6k snowmaking Loop today. We continue to make snow on part of the Judy trail and the sledding hill in order to push our total to 7.5k for Masters World Cup.

The man-made trail with some new additions makes for a great ski. I was also surprised by quite a few double tracks which makes us classic skiers happy. The tracks were in very good shape this afternoon. Kudos to the groomers and the Loppet Foundation for extending the snow making loops at Theo -- much appreciated!

[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
We have 4.75k of machine made snow groomed and tracked. We opened the lower stadium yesterday. We are currently working on pushing out snow piles on the rest of the Twin Lake Trail which will open soon.
We have begun making snow on the sledding hill and a portion of the Judy trail to achieve our 7.5k of machine made snow for the Masters World Cup. Only two weeks away!

[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Skied the man-made snow loop and then headed across the road, skiing the golf course and south, under Hwy 55 and through the Wirth Lake section. The man-made loop continues to get better almost daily - a lot of big snow piles, especially on Twin Lakes, awaiting grooming. Plenty of snow on the man-made loops, good skis no problem.
The golf course side and south is pretty thin, and hard packed in sections, with some windblown sections as well. Definitely B skis, maybe even rock skis in some places. There is snow covering the Hwy 55 underpass. The best snow was on Wirth Lake, where it is about 1" thick but pretty firm and level. Nice afternoon ski, though I dream of a 20F heat wave...

The snowmaking loop keeps getting bigger, and the current flow that runs up through the prairie is a nice addition. Skiing late afternoon, I struggled with the strong, cold wind that made 13F still feel like -10F along sections of the course. Course was a little hardpacked but not icy. Classic track looked good.
