Adventure Runs at Interstate State Park, Wisconsin

The summer temperatures are starting to cool off and it is a great time to get out into the woods. The Minnesota Orienteering Club is excited to offer a series of adventure runs this fall. The first Adventure Run of the series will rock the peerless terrain of Wisconsin Interstate State Park, a spectacular natural venue featuring mature pine and hardwood forests salted with lichen-covered basalt boulders and giant water-sculpted hills and valleys.

MNOC specializes in staging high quality orienteering events. Orienteering is the sport of navigating a prescribed course over unknown terrain using only your wits, a map, and a compass. MNOC events normally offer a full complement of beginner, intermediate and advanced navigation courses with individual start times, but for this event we are changing the rules. These Adventure Runs will begin with an exciting mass start and allow GPS devices as a navigational aid on the course. We have dialed back the navigational difficulty of these courses to an intermediate level so these races will be fast and fun. Come out and join the adventure of a run in the woods.

Two Adventure Runs will be offered to test your skills and stamina. A short course of approximately 4 kilometers and long course, approximately 7.5 kilometers in length.

SCHEDULE:
Sunday September 25th.
Registration begins 12:00PM and closes at 12:30PM.
Mandatory pre-race meeting at 12:45PM.
Mass Start for both Long 8k and Short 4k Courses at 1:00PM.
All courses close at 3:30PM.

There will be an Adventure Runner beginner's clinic at 12:15PM. If you would like to attend, please arrive early in order to get registered in time to participate.

In addition to the Long and Short Adventure runs there will also be a 2 kilometer easy course. This course will be similar to a white or yellow orienteering course and will not require a mass start. You may start this course anytime between 12:00PM and 1:30PM. It will be a great way for a family to enjoy a hike in the park.

Before and after the race there are many other activities available in the park including hiking, canoe rentals, rock climbing, and a swimming beach.
