[ Rock skis ]
Four inches of wet and dense snow fell in the Park yesterday to make skiing in a skier made track a joy this afternoon. Soft for skating. 45 degrees. Still lots of untouched snow.

It was a great day for skiing today. The trails were just groomed. We skated the blue and green trails. Snow coverage was good with very little debris. The deck was firm. Overall, the trails were in great condition. The classic tracks looked good, also. Get out there and enjoy it!

I skated the blue, red and green loops and they had plenty of snow, no bare spots, and no debris! The skate deck was firm but had about 1-2 inches of snow on top, but it was very nice to skate on! It was a great sunny day. My husband classic skied on the green loop and said the tracks were firm and deep. Thanks for the recent report, it inspired us to check it out and we were glad we did!

Trails were soft but good. Nothing to complain about. About a half inch fell over the groom. My sister skied classic and they were in great condition.

[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Pretty much full coverage but for 6-8 brown spots on climbs. Good to very good tracks throughout, Skate deck was mostly firm with occasional soft spots due to the 1-1.5 inches that fell overnight. Skate deck had been groomed to corduroy after nighttime snowfall and the most of the tracks had been reset as well. Plenty of snow and beautiful hilly terrain in the woods. The new "Lodge" for xc skiers is very nice, tables, chairs, bathrooms, no food concessions. Although lots of cars most people were fat biking and snowshoeing, so the trails are not getting beat up. If you want good snow and driving from the south, this might be your shortest drive to very good conditions.

Conditions are good, although we did not venture onto the blue sections. Skiing was slow as glide was affected by cold and some new snow. Light snow was falling and covered any grass that had been poking into the tracks. We did not ever feel the need to step out of the track for debris. The tracks were a bit shallow, as expected with low snow conditions. The skating deck looked a little soft, and did have an inch or so of new snow since the last grooming on Monday. It was great to finally get out on skis after the last two winters we have had!

Rocks finally got enough snow to open the trails and tracks have been set as well. Snow conditions are soft, plus thin spots and some debris in the dense pine areas. So B skis at this time. Nice to be back out at the Rock.

Enjoyable classic skiing on a cold but sunny afternoon. Nicely set tracks on all of red and most of blue loops. Fair number of thin spots in tracks but they still skied pretty nice. Skate deck in fairly good shape. Good coverage but thin in places so B skis. Worth the drive up from Baraboo for some last chance Birkie prep.

Strided almost all trail segments this morning after fresh grooming of the new snow. Tracks were mostly good with a few thin spots. The conditions were a bit soft, but still a fun ski for Joanie and I. Skate lanes also looked good with a few thin spots.

Portage County Parks has done a nice job creating a small 1km or so of primarily manmade trail. It has been regroomed several times per week and is holding up nicely. Lights are on in the evening until 8pm I believe.
