2023-2024 season
Reports 1 to 9 of 9    Month: Jan
Monday, January 22, 2024
Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Skied the prairie and campground trails. Some grooming has finally been done. The trail was just rolled (no classic tracks) but the machine was headed out again as I was leaving. Even just rolled, it was a lot better than before. Snow softer than it's been but skiing quite nice.

Observation
No grooming has been done since the last big snowfall. Some classic tracks have been skied in and might be worth a go, but skating will not be worth your effort.

The crew at the SP are having to deal with broken grooming equipment. Therefore, the only track set was done by the previous skiers. Needless to say it was a pretty bad, uneven soft, then hard track. Oh well, things could be worse.... it could be cold and windy.

Firsthand: Classic Secondhand
[ Good skis ]
No trails groomed as of Thursday at 2 pm. A sign on the office says that they had an equipment failure with their grooming equipment. No estimated time date when it would be fixed. There is a well-set classic track from previous skiers around the prairie loop, which is what I skied. I think the same applies to the other trails, but I only skied the prairie. Very nice although would be better if groomed.

Still no grooming at Kegonsa as of 3 pm this afternoon. There was a very well skied in classic track all the way around though. Good coverage, even under the bridge. A little bit of debris and a few trees and limbs bent down over the trail, but nothing we couldn't ski around. Great day. Hope they groom soon.

No grooming yet, so I just followed in the trail broken by others. Pretty well used track on the prairie loop that let me get into a good rhythm. Campground loops hadn't been ventured out on yet. Beautiful day to get out before it gets frigid!

Toughed out a lap on the Prairie loop. It was rolled yesterday but pretty soft. Hopefully better by the weekend.

Beautiful, magical scenery! Good conditions with a few bare spots. I classic skied almost all of the trails right after the groomer went through for the first time, about 3:00 pm. No tracks we= set. (People just coming off the trail before the groomer went through reported very sticky conditions.) 30 degrees and no wind so get out there! Thank you groomers!
