The trails that loop off the river (western) were groomed recently and in good shape while the trails more to the east (e.g. overlooking the lake) were not groomed since the Friday/Saturday snow and just have skier skied in tracks. A lot of walkers on the lower elevation areas just across the hwy from the Visitor Center.

Not yet groomed since the snow overnight so we broke trail on the path where the luminary event will take place tonight. Absolutely beautiful with the light fluffy snow covering all the trees!

Another picture perfect day skiing Gooseberry with sun and deep blue skies! For the second day in a row we saw a huge white snowshoe hare right off the ski trail. Tracks are well set throughout entire park and campground trails. Very large wolf tracks all over and very little foot traffic made for a fun ski. Even the deer were peacefully meandering down the frozen river as we headed back to the main park building.

Great day at Gooseberry. Sun was shining and tracks were in nice shape almost everywhere. Skied the campground loop and the eastern side above the highway. 8 miles total. Very nice trail system. Was cold day and nice to have the option to warm up in visitor center.

Wonderful. The classic tracks were excellent. Skied the loops above the highway. Bright blue ski and squeaky snow.

Skied a full loop of everything at Gooseberry, just skipping inside loops on the northeast side of the river. Just about everything has been groomed since the last snow, though parts of the trails on the northeast side of the river have only be packed, not double tracked like they usually are. Still perfectly skiable! Where it is tracked it is marvelous conditions. Full depth tracks (some drifting in places after last nights wind), lifted on key downhills and uphills. Skate deck packed on the skate loop but it looked soft yet. Where there are road crossings near the campground looks like they laid down packed snow, so the only crossing you have to take skis off for is the one on the Gitchi-gami near the entrance. Lots of wolf tracks (and some poop, watch out for that) on the trails.

Coming home from Grand Marais, we stopped at Gooseberry for a quick snowshoe to the Falls. While snowshoeing, we saw freshly groomed ski trails! Traded the shoes for the skis, and took off skiing. The tracks were in great shape with the fresh snow. Thanks to the groomers for getting out so quickly!
