Trail Reports

Reports 1 to 10 of 22    Month: Feb | Jan | Dec | Nov

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Main loop had a solid skate deck, and the classic tracks are still there, just covered a little bit with the sugar snow we got Wednesday. Recommend rock skis/B skis for the trail from the gate, the field, and the hill climbs; at best, there's thin coverage, but overall we need more snow. If you wanna just use good skis, be prepared to walk up the drive, since the gate is closed while they have some equipment out there, but the manmade loop you can use good skis on. In any case, the snow provided a pretty nice glide.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Partial, Good skis ]
Skate deck was packed and tracked, some icy spots. Snow was hard and fast. No classic tracks set. Snow is being made off in the field for a snowmobile race coming up in a few weeks; gate may be closed and locked at times due to equipment that's out there. Grooming plans: We will groom a trail from the gate, again, if we get new snow.

Snow was freshly groomed, trail already packed and tracked. No classic track set at this time. Skate deck was in good condition.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
Looked like the loop had been groomed recently for skating, no classic tracks set. Looked like maybe one person had been on it since it was groomed so there is a lot of corduroy. Base didn't feel very hard, and the snow felt slow, feels like dry snow.

Morning
Firsthand: Classic
[ Good skis ]
Skied the man-made loop; classic tracks were hard and icy, skate deck/hills were heavily skied and bumpy but hey, it's full-coverage skiing!

Afternoon

Skate deck was thin in spots but still skiable; some debris, but not a lot. Down to one classic track still set up with the warm up.

Evening
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Got out for 45 minutes of skiing and drills and I expected a block of ice after the warm weather in the day. On the contrary the surface was perfect. It was a very enjoyable evening ski.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle Secondhand
[ Trails Open: Partial, Good skis ]
Skate deck was hard and fast. Classic tracks are holding up well. Great to see more and more folks getting out there and it not be crowded. Did some trail planning and plotting with other Silvermine volunteers for the upcoming spring. As I was leaving, planning was to give Silvermine a grooming facelift soon for the upcoming couple days, once more fuel was procured.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Partial, Good skis ]
Skate deck was slightly soft with the smidgeon of new snow we got and the warmer temps but still packed and tracked and skied well. Classic tracks had snow blown into them, but I double poled in the tracks to pack it down, and they are still in great condition too.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Partial, Good skis ]
Snow was hard and slick, trail well packed and tracked. Fast corners. Classic tracks frozen in and set around the perimeter. Good temps and good trail to get out to ski; get your trail pass online while the temps are nice!
