Notes

Some of the best trails in southern Minnesota. Tucked in the valley behind the school, the trails run around the northern slopes of the valley making them quite challenging and also well protected from the sun. Some lighted sections, and snowmaking operations.

The man-made loop is still holding up really well. On Saturday they groomed and reset tracks and on Sunday things still skied great. You could use good skis if you are mindful of not looping through the middle tracks in the woods. I am very appreciative of what SMU has been able to offer in this otherwise almost snowless winter!

Good warmer day to ski. Snow is still holding up but was getting packed down with the warmer temps. Good mix of people out. A few hills around the main bowl good for quick hill training. The longer loop is a steady minimal climb and a gradual downhill good for getting distance laps in. Some leaves and twigs on the trail but generally easy to avoid. Thankful to be skiing on snow.

Glad to get out for my first ski of the season. Thankful for the dedication of the snowmaking and grooming crews to make skiing possible with the lack of natural snow. Conditions are good for the areas that have been covered and groomed. About 10 people out with a mix of classic and skate. With the cold temps the trails are holding up well. The longest loop is good enough for an enjoyable ski and good distance.

Observation
[ Trails Open: Partial, Good skis ]
Our 2K multi loop trail is skiing very good. Skate lanes are firm with cushion on top and the classic track is deep and firm.

A bit more trail is now open after additional snowmaking (another loop toward the woods), which added to the interesting ways in which you can meander through the man-made course at present. Conditions were pretty good and consistent throughout, with a fairly fast skate deck (save a bit slower on the newer made snow), and some patches or thinner spots filled in. Folks were skiing pretty steadily throughout the late morning, but it never felt crowded. Great location, all around, and a big thanks to the groomers and snowmakers!

Our 1.5km man-made loop survived the warm spell and rain. It averages 8"+ and you can run good skis. We are also resetting track but it's klister conditions. The snowmaking group added a 300m section and touched up some areas today. Skiing should be great this weekend.
