Trail Detail
Notes
A great mix of beginner and expert ski trails. With the inclusion of the Jerry Jolly Trails there is about 25 km groomed for skating and classic. There is also an additional 15 km of classic only trails. With views of Lake Superior and the Apostle Islands, this is a very scenic area to ski. There is a nice lodge which sells snacks and food as well as a ski patrol and small downhill area.Trail Reports

Beautiful snowfall again! All trails have been groomed in the last two days, with the exception of spots on Jolly Long and Beginners Loop.

New snow, sun, and very cold. This morning all of the classic trails were rolled and tracked. Exceptions are the very bottom of Oppedahl's and the yurt access road section of Deerpath. Also groomed were Abbey Rd to the cabin, and Anchor with all its spurs. The trails look good, if you are brave enough for the cold.

I am new to the area so I do not know all the trail names yet. I have skated here three times. Twice before the warm weather and again Wednesday. I did a nine mile loop the second time. Ski your best skis. Plenty of coverage. All trails are snow covered and had been groomed before the warm few days. Wednesday I skated on Abbey Road to the cabin and back. If not for the wind, it was awesome. The base set up with the cold and fresh four inches had not yet been rolled or groomed. The snow was fast and fun. Sorry no pics. Finn Sisu!

There was 4" of fresh wet snow that froze overnight. We had good success grooming and tracking. Most trails have good early season skiing, though some areas have less snow and some have debris. The skate lanes are fairly smooth but soft.

It was a very nice day on the trails. The coverage was thin, but pretty consistent. Some grass and twigs sticking out of the base, but very little that could cause damage. Everything that was concerning could easily be stepped around. I think it was 27F when I started and 35F when I was done, so it was deteriorating a bit. All in all, nice grooming, and great to get out.

Mt Ashwabay groomers groomed and set track on most of our Nordic trails. Classic trails are tracked in most places, except the lower part of Oppedahl's is too wet; Jolly Loop to Abbey Rd doesn't have enough snow; Deerpath has one hill not tracked; Under the pines snow is thin. Skate decks are starting to flatten out and a bit soft. About 70% of the tracks are pretty good.

Groomers were out all weekend. Only the Classic Trails- Sugar Bush, Seagull, Deer Path, Oppendahl's - have been rolled and combed. Snow condition is good, but the base is still thin.

We had word that the foot of powder on the trails was rolled and we set off to explore. The snow is wonderful higher up and on the frontside of the mountain; it is wetter on the lower Jolly loop) trails and a little dirty on the backside. But it was wonderful to really ski on natural snow and we had a many k trip out and around the sugar shack, up to the top of the ski hill, across and a fast run back down. Note that it is only rolled- it is bumpy, sometimes very soft, and there are many sticks. Our B skis were totally fine, but we did dodge a few rocks. Come on up- skiing like this reminded us why we love skiing) please remember to buy your trail pass (you can do it online) and, if the chalet is open (starting on the 15th), stop in for food and drink.
