Trail Detail
Notes
A great mix of beginner and expert ski trails. With the inclusion of the Jerry Jolly Trails there is about 25 km groomed for skating and classic. There is also an additional 15 km of classic only trails. With views of Lake Superior and the Apostle Islands, this is a very scenic area to ski. There is a nice lodge which sells snacks and food as well as a ski patrol and small downhill area.Trail Reports

Mt Ashwabay was groomed yesterday to the sugar shack. There were a few open areas on the classic track especially closer to the parking lot but generally not bad for April 1st. The skate deck look pretty good. It was nice to have one last picnic ski to the sugar shack before my end of the season. Thank you very much grooming crew for all your hard work.

Skated first, same pattern as yesterday. All had been groomed by the Bombardier with super results. Areas that were icy yesterday were less so today. The skate was smooth and fast, especially over upper Anchor and connector to Seagull. Skied classic trails next. Sugarbush had been freshly reset. The track was better than nothing, but was generally shallow and there were a number of icy areas. Skied combined trail classic tracks back that had been groomed by the Bombardier. They were excellent with rare icy spots. By noon, in sunny warm places, the tracks were slow. Will try to hit the sweet spot again tomorrow!

I skated just after the first groomer made rounds with a Ginzu. I went out on Anchor and up ZigZag, over to Seagull, out to the cabin, and returned to upper Anchor and finished up on Roller Coaster. The Ginzu had scratched up a reasonable amount of the hard pack and made a decent and fairly fast skate deck for most of my tour, while the temperature was still several degrees below freezing. There were occasional icy stretches, a couple of short ice patches, and a few areas of dirty snow. It was a good spring ski! As I was finishing up, the Bombadier was going out on Abbey Road. It looked like it was making nice corduroy, but I did not explore how far.

Refreshed skate with double knives on Anchor system, Seagull to Nordic summit, Abbey Rd to cabin including Baby Seagull. Did not do Skid Rd. Results of double knives were good on long stretches and it looks very skiable. However these are definitely spring conditions and there are stretches of icy deck with some patches of glare ice and dirty snow. The Classic Only tracks are very poor after a couple of very warm days.

I started skiing at noon, I was too late for the good skiing. It was very soft and slow, others said it was great in the morning. They still have a ton of snow up there. Thanks grooming crew!

Incredible skiing at Mt. Ashwabay today. They got about 6 inches of powder with the last storm and all of the trails were immaculately groomed today. Lots of long uphills and downhills here with beautiful vistas makes this one of my favorite places to ski. There is a lot of snow here and they should have some good spring skiing.
