Trail Detail
Notes
A great mix of beginner and expert ski trails. With the inclusion of the Jerry Jolly Trails there is about 25 km groomed for skating and classic. There is also an additional 15 km of classic only trails. With views of Lake Superior and the Apostle Islands, this is a very scenic area to ski. There is a nice lodge which sells snacks and food as well as a ski patrol and small downhill area.Trail Reports

The skate trails were touched up this morning. They are in fantastic condition. The classic tracks need to be touched up but we are waiting for the perfect temperatures.

New Snow! I’d say the trails got 3-4 inches of new fluffy lake effect snow which mixed into the base will ski like a dream. Today groomed and Tracked North Star Beginners Loop, Telford, Abbey Road, Jolly, Skid Road, Seagull connector, Northern Lights, Seagull, Anchor, Switch Back, Anchor Power line Connector, Power Line, and Roller Coaster. The Skate lanes look excellent, the Classic tracks are good and look a lot better than yesterday but are not perfect yet.

This morning we groomed all the skate lanes, they are flat, firm, and fast with a nice surface texture. The classic tracks on the skate/classic trails are still in good condition. I’ll tell you straight the trails are mostly in great shape but until we get new snow you will experience variability in the surface depending on how warm any section got on Sunday. Half the trails ski like normal winter conditions (dry firm snow) but you may discover a section with groomed micro-ice particles right next to it. As I said earlier there is a surface layer of groomed snow on a firm base everywhere, the difference is the composition of the groomed layer. The classic track was reset on Raven, Deer Path, Black Bear, and Oppedahl’s.

Absolutely fantastic ski at Mt. Ashwabay! Classic skiing (blue extra) on all trails today. Some tracks are fresh, some a day or two old, and all in great condition. Every trail was wide, firm, and clean. Does not get any better - this is the kind of ski I will dream of in July.
