Trail Reports

2023-2024 season
Reports 21 to 30 of 44    Month: Apr | Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec | Nov

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
I decided to skip cliffs trail today as I found it difficult to control my skis on the downhills. The trail had frozen up overnight. Just one lap was enough for me. Grooming or warming temps would make it safer.

[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
Was happy to find freshly groomed skate lanes on most of the system. Good edging, which helped as the icy snow was fast, especially on the downhills. No dirt seen at all. Almost normal winter shape, except the snow being icy and a little bumpy.

Firsthand: Classic
[ B skis ]
Everything was open, and it was great to get on natural snow. The weather has not been kind to the trails, though. The deck was firm but lumpy in places. The classic tracks were variable - from good, if a bit icy, to impassable, where snow had recently been pushed on to fix problems. This was mostly on Wolverine trail, between the hospital trail and the chalet.

[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Skate skied all the loops multiple times and conditions were better than expected! Mostly clean and plentiful snow, some dirt and a few rocks that were easily avoided. Trail got faster by late afternoon - super fun! Classic tracks also in great shape throughout. So nice to be on natural snow!

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ B skis ]
Classic tracks are still skiable. Mostly free of debris, though did have the first-in-40-years experience of seeing earthworms in the tracks. Things were getting fast around dusk, and the downhills dicey -- they're filled with gouges and ruts as the skate deck got really mushy today. Would not recommend anything but flats tomorrow if it freezes up.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Tracks were very soft. Skate deck wasn't as soft but I wouldn't call it firm either. Some dirt and stubble here and there but easily avoidable.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle Secondhand
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Fresh corduroy, very firm, great skating conditions. Warming, fine grained snow was getting slow. Track appeared to be in good shape. Classic skiers reported track was glazed, and hard to get good kick.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
All trails were groomed and track set this morning. The snow firmed up nicely. Winds have calmed down since last night. Temps in the low 20' s today. Very good conditions.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Groomers were out Saturday evening and early Sunday morning setting solid tracks and good corduroy. Winds were blowing snow bunnies and twigs from the snow laden trees. Volunteers were flicking sticks off the trails to make way for many out on the trails. Was great to see the Eden Prairie Ski Team enjoying the snow and having fun maneuvering through a timed technical course.

First time at Wolverine and it did not disappoint! Skate deck was groomed well although slow because of the cold temps and new snow from Friday night. Classic tracks were set nicely overall with some softness on the right pole plants. Didn't have the energy to explore the Powderhorn loop, but all others were fun.
