Was a bit worried, based on earlier report, that the ORR would have icy classic tracks but maybe there was a light coating of new snow overnight? Found the outbound track excellent at noon today. Green wax, 14F. Great kick. The return track was shallow and icy in parts, especially around the 2K long downhill mark.

Skied ORR classic late in the afternoon. I was expecting an icy track and it was but a bit better on upper portion of the road. I used my fish scale crowns which are my go to ice ski. They did not work as well as I had hoped and perhaps skins or klister would have been better. But I ended up double poling most of the route up and down which of course works well when tracks are hard and fast. The trail intersection with east oberg at the top 2k mark looked tempting but I am glad I demurred because the lower part of this loop has been trashed by hikers, including the classic tracks which made it bumpy and all ice.

I skate skied the Onion River Road. Was not expecting it to be as good as it was. Groomer was out this morning making the icy trails very ski-able. I also skied the Oberg lake loop. This loop was very icy and rough skiing, but definitely possible and fun if you are comfortable on skis.

Excellent conditions for skate and classic on Onion River Road. Freshly groomed last night. We also skied Picnic loop from Onion River Road most of the way toward the Homestead loop. Picnic Loop is in good condition. Great coverage, some undulations but not bad. On the ridge, the trees were covered in beautiful hoar frost. Photos are from the Picnic loop.

Great skiing on a nice base at Sugarbush. Picnic Loop was in good shape, with little to no debris. Tracks set on most of the loop but trail narrowed in spots. Initial part of Oberg Loop had been walked over and would benefit from grooming but was still decent skiing.

Skied the Onion River Rd in the evening and it was quite good. The groomer had been over it several times. Good track set.

I skate skied the Summit View trail in the afternoon. It had just been groomed and was actually pretty good. The surface was pretty consistent without evidence of prior tracks just "scratched over."

Skied at Onion River Road trailhead. Snow was thawed and refrozen. Skate deck was unskiable and very icy. There is snow, but I wouldn't bother going until it is groomed.

Oberg loop was groomed this weekend and the soft snow better packed. A few uneven spots on the steep climbs (went counterclockwise) but overall had nice glide and it was beautiful in the mist and fog. B skis probably best as the warm temps may thin some areas. Classic tracks looked great. Wet snow conditions but much better than expected!

Took my good skis out to Onion River Road and skied part way towards Homestead loop. Onion River trail was surprisingly wonderful today. Absolutely stunning with the trees covered in plenty of snow and mostly packed down to get good glide. Good skis possible, just dodge a few sections of debris from the pines above. The Oberg and Picnic loops have very deep soft snow. Photos don't do justice to the winter wonderland that is Sugarbush right now.
